Is it safe to change videoconfig.txt settings?

I want to get as many fps as possible so i went into videoconfig.txt and saw there are few settings enabled there that i can't disable in game such as shadows. Is it safe for me to turn them off or im risking getting banned for that?

KaziuKrol It is recommended to only change the settings that you could in-game.
