I certainly appreciate the reasoning behind Respawns cautiousness when it comes to changing/adding new characters.
In my eyes games like League of Legends couldn't be taken seriously as a competitive title because their business model totally dominated how the game was played. They needed to add new champions fast so that their users would always have someone to buy skins for. In the process tens of other champions would be tweaked to accommodate them. This in turn would change the way existing champions interacted with one another. But so many people were too distracted by a shiny new character and these patch notes that people followed like gospel (or maybe more like a TV drama).
Remember how people complain about hero balance in Overwatch despite having a 3-4 month interval between each new playable character? Imagine that except 3-4 months is changed to 1-2 weeks over the course of numerous years. That was one terribly overlooked clusterf*** and I daren't return to see if they reversed even a part of the damage.
My point is, Respawns way is the better way of doing it. Maybe not for the people who stop playing when a game goes a whole week without news, but for us that want to play a well thought-out game.
