New legend concept: chrysalis

Name: chrysalis 

Type: Support

Backstory:NA

Passive: crystal coating

Holding the reload button allows you to bring up a menu. The menu allows you to change the typing of the bullets in your inventory to a selected type. 

Tactical: gem spear 

This ability has 2 charges with a short cooldown, once activated fire a gem shard that once it hits will spread coating the area and creating a ricocheting area. This also has a secondary use. If it hits a barrier e.g ramparts shields or gibbies bubble they will solidify preventing them from leaveing or jumping through while also not damageing the shield. This works on your teams as well. Bullets the enemies fire can deal damage to them as well if reflected

Ult: once activated all team members regardless of distance will have their shields coated in a thick bullet resistant armour. The armour can not be penetrated until it reaches a set amount of damage meaning your shields won't take damage until then either. The problem with this is they also have timers until they wear off, and team mates won't gain the effect if they have not got any shields charged. It should also have a long cooldown

    Does the passive let you convert bullets from for example light to energy?
    Is that what it means?
    If so, maybe a convertion rate would be in order, so you lose a percentage of the bullets. Especially if converted to sniper or shotgun ammo.

    I like the tactical, would it cover the Gibby-bubble completely tho'? Or just a part of it?
    Also, can you see through the coating?
    What happens if you shoot it at Caustic's barrels, on doors or on Catalyst's goop?

    As mentioned on other concepts, I think having anything that basically is "increased health" or "damage reduction" as a skill can be just an instant win. There are of course a lot of times where the enemy team may still hit you more than you hit them and you'll still die. Personally tho' I think it may be problematic from a balance standpoint.
  • @DrWizardo A conversion rate would be smart I honestly didn't consider it. Perhaps once activated it has a bar that shows the progress of how much it has converted. They may also require a separate bag space during that time to which might mean backpack management is important

    So the tac I thought about a full gibby shield cover because I'd love it to be a pure counter to the bob and weave strategy. However I feel it would be unfair to for a portion of time he is basically unable to do anything. That comboed with grenades it's like an instant death situation for a gibby. So it has to be partial but if you use both it would cover a large portion say 60-75%. It would be see through but kind of like in a mirror dimension view. Distorted in someway. As for other abilities honestly I had only really considered defensive abilities however I'll fix that now. So caustic barrels yes unless already activated, doors are a maybe I don't want this character to replace catalyst so maybe yes but as a lesser copy. The goo can have it though. Crypto drones if hit are a yes, rev ult yes, Watson abilities yes but I feel they should deactivate those hit. Loba ult yes if you have any others your curious about just ask we can defiantly discuss.

    As for the ult I'm kind of at the opposite end of the dream pool. While I agree I don't want it being an effect that offers instant win conditions as that's unfair I am OK with extra health as it is basically like takeing a ramp shield but portable. It's defiantly destroyable but now they have to double crack. If it does feel unbalanced which I won't be surprised what would you personally do if you made an ability like that?

    (sorry for the slow response)

    Regarding the passive I would either make it so that you could load ammo automatically from any type, but it would require a longer reload time and it would not be a 1 for 1 convertion. Like 1 sniper bullet = 5-7 light/medium, 2 shotgun, 1-2 arrows or 4-6 energy (energy seems to be rarer? but otherwise the same as light/medium).

    Been thinking about the tactical and to me it would be interesting if as you say it would cover parts of Gibbys dome, meaning you could potentially lock people inside with enough charges (and terrain).

    If the tactical sort of makes what ever it hits coated with crystals, maybe it makes that object brittle too?
    ie:
    1: shoot a surface coating it with crystals.
    2: shooting the crystals sends shards in random directions damaging players hit by them.
    3: after XXX damage the crystals shatter becoming a dust cloud, blinding and potentially dealing minor damage (like Caustic gas).

    Shooting gas traps would make it so they can not be shot to activate them (before the crystals are broken), if you are near the cannister it will however release gas. 3:rd parties would take both damage from dust cloud and gas if both were active.
    Same goes for enemies if you have both Crysalis and Caustic on your team.

    Doors shot by the spear would be coated in crystals, you could still open the door, but now you can break it with any weapon by breaking the crystals. Offers a little bit of anti door play.

    As for the ultimate I'm not sure what to do. I guess the closest are Rev and Gibby.
    Gibby has the thing where the dome is bound to a location, and Revenant's ult is sort of both time and location bound.

    The thing with those are that you can counter or play around them to a degree.

    On the top of my head you could do damage reduction in pulses, have some weakpoint on the back, rotating shields around the player (like Gibby's arm shield) you could link Crysalis to the other team mates via a "beam" so enemies would possibly focus that player to break the ult + it would give the buffed team a "visual tell", so that enemies could spot them easier.

    You could also have a big sound and visual cue telling people even somewhat far away that the ult is activated making it a bigger risk to get third partied.

    I don't really know what to do. As mentioned earlier when it comes down do invoulnerability or damage reduction with effective health, having more is just better xD

  • @DrWizardo I like the idea for the ult haveing a weak point in the armor would make players think about it. Either waiting for a time out or trying to get behind and blast the shield off instantly.

    I don't know about makeing things brittle. It is a good idea but I personally don't want to make it to busted. For it to work like that I'd probably remove the ricochet idea and have that feature instead. And maybe remove the damage while shooting but keep the after effects after it is destroyed. It sounds like a good idea

    I also agree with certain abilities being able to still be usable when crystallised the caustic trap would become a bit sturdier which is always nice
