@dougdaner123I haven't gotten an heirloom set yet, but I have seen people mention that you actually have to equip the heirloom item after you unlock it, in order to use it. I saw a clip once, and it looked like it appeared on the bottom-right of the screen, when looking at the list of skins for the character.
You probably haven't equipped it.
