Ah, I see, so it's not up to the player, but up to the game system distribution itself. In this case, the only way is to file a complaint ticket to EA outlining that the given instructions are misleading and the game does not function the way it is intended to.
Also, it is worth giving it a shot and asking EA_Mako for possible solutions.
