Port Forwarding and Static IP

So I’m curious as to know if anyone here uses these functions to help their online gaming I am wanting to lower my ping and help my experience by speeding up everything. Does anyone here know how to do this on an Xbox that could guide me through the process, we have 3 consoles and in the future a 4th will be coming so I want to know how I could help these individually be better. Also does anyone have any recommendations on how fast our internet speed should be I’m thinking of downgrading my speed it’s currently 400mbps but from what I’ve read it’s probably a bit overkill. Any help would be appreciated.

  • @XvArawnvX I had tried all of the above a year ago, didn't change anything tbh, same with DNS, I regularly change it, but it doesn't seem to give my online experience any benefits whatsoever.

@Gabrielmojo26 Oh ok well I’ll try anything anyone else have experience with this I was hoping to hear from some of the techies I’ve seen talking in here as well
  • @XvArawnvX Hey there, as for the port forwarding stuff I can not speak on that. Not something I am experienced with in terms of consoles. As for your internet though 400 is def an overkill to be at a good solid connection its recommended to be at least at 40-50 mbs for online gaming. Speeds mainly determine download rates and such.
  • @E9ine_AC Thanks yea I’m downgrading to 200 at the end of the month that should still be plenty for 3-4 consoles, I’m gonna try the port thing this evening or this weekend I believe and I’ll get back to you guys how it goes
  • @XvArawnvX XBox, PC, or Playstation should be all very much the same for speed within your house. The difference is made by the route you take to get to the server. Unfortunately the US throttles the internet out of nothing more than pure greed. Aside from that slice of life... you can only do so much tweaking of your home network.

Your premium ISP might boast optic fiber and high speeds, but the other networks they connect to might be cooking nacho cheese on the servers and have the speed of a 4800 baud dial up modem. I saw an advert for wireless internet with a popular cell phone company. They sell it no caps for $25 US, but can only promise speeds between 15 to 50 Mbps. This all depends on how close you are to a cell tower and Boris melting his cheese on the servers.
  • @XvArawnvX With all of the things connecting make sure you are doing everything you can in house such as wired ethernet and if on wifi get a good router.
  • @hayhor Absolutely thanks and I think I got the fordarding done correctly but need a baseline to know for sure so maybe keep tabs on my wife’s ping regularly and compare it to mine.
