In GW2, we have that already, we have Toxic Chomper, toxic citron, toxic brain, etc. If you close to them, you get damage.
I think that is doable. The only thing to make it reasonable, he should have toxic aurora, smoking toxic fart around his body.
Another passive idea, when he is inside his smoke, his bullet is contaminated, so enemy get extra poison damage for few seconds.

Na man, we don't need MMO style AoE debufs in a shooter game.
Caustic doesn't need abilities to help him get away from fights. He already takes less game, so best thing to do is actually fight and just shoot people in the face.
- @Vladplaya I wasn’t suggesting giving him an ability to get out of a fight. I was saying since he doesn’t have the ability to disengage from a fight give him an option to double down on charging head first into a fight with a passive that would give him an edge.
