I've picked up a 301 even lately. In the firing range it's a perfect gentleman. In the field it is not. And like every other gun in this game, it's designed around a fatal flaw. Gun A has uncontrolable recoil, but a huge clip. Gun B has recoil you can almost wrap your brain around, but the clip is so small that it's 90% empty before I've even acquired the target. Gun C has no recoil and a very small clip, but takes 45 minutes to reload. Gun C in this exercise is the charge rifle. Not enough ammo and a ludicrous reload time is the price I pay for a gun that actually hits the things I aim at. There are some autos that I don't hate, but the basic premise of ALL autos is that you have to get fairly close to your target, and the other benefit of the charge rifle is that 90% of the times that I use it I'm so far away from my targets that they can't return fire. The best shots you take in this game are the ones that don't get returned.
In the end, I don't really know if I would say that I'm "this bad with a gun," but I would say that getting up close with weapons that give me no confidence, behave unreliably, and which guarantee I'll be shot at... all adds up to 50/50 situations. I'm not willing to bleed out my eyeballs for even odds. Even odds don't win matches. So I stick with guns I know work, I put myself into situations and positions where they work the best, and I let sbmm do the rest. Healthy win rate, higher k/d than I have any business having, and a modicum of fun into the bargain. It almost feels greedy to ask for an auto that actually works.
Which, now that I think about it, is a fully kitted devotion. That's an auto that gives me confidence. Available one match in 300. If lucky.
@reconzeroYeah, I guess I see your logic somewhat -- if it works for you use it. However, you seem to be locked into a one trick pony situation. How will you ever get better as a player if you can't do much with even the meta guns? You know it, and I know it, but that's why meta's exist - because they are the current best. You can go against the grain, but it won't get you far unless your playstyle is especially niche. Point of the game, and what makes you good is to be good or capable with all weapons and in all situations. I've recently developed a good relationship with a p2020 on drop, even smoked players vs a Volt smg with it lol. Point is, do you, but be lenient enough to be good with literally everything else just in case you need to 🙂
Sorry if I was harsh to you in previous posts, just find it hard to get a point across without being very direct. Working on it.
Edit: I forgot - in my lobbies people still favor the R301 over any gun because of accuracy I guess. Even the R99 and Flatline is left in the dust in favor of it. It is still the king.

Oh, it most definitely is a one-trick pony thing. But it's no different than the one-trick I see 95% of other players locked in: they have the gun skills but not one single ounce of patience or common sense. That's why I can and do still win with my charge rifle. Because there is more to this game than gun skills. They're an important thing, but they're not the only thing.- 3 years ago
I don't really know how to say this but "most" players don't know how to aim, properly. Patience is a thing but pretty much the last thing when it comes to what is perceived as skilled. Patience is situational and accuracy / gun skill /quick reaction is ever present. EVER present. It will help you in every situation, even if you messed up.
I once read posts on Reddit about "what could I have done differently to win" on Apex university and some players almost lost it because the OPs' aim was so bad....no one wants the practice or put effort towards it to improve, yet they ask it and want the results? In high tier lobbies people do not seem to miss shots. There's no options, many times. You peak wrong you are dead. Patience won't help here if I can't put my opponent down quick in turn with whatever I have equipped.

Bruh... like the other day when I sent my friend a clip of me beaming this kid up in the B tower at Barometer, from across the map with R301. Anyway, she said "try that with a Flatline", and I said "wth would I do that?". R301 ftw!
