Re: I am getting so sick of this garbage

@reconzeroI know. I quit to lobby liberally as well. Bad teammates, weird teammates, toxic teammates, idiot teammates, teammates quitting before we even drop, crappy loot, insta-melted by a 3 stack, you name it . . . I'm quitting to lobby.  Doesn't seem to mean anything to The Algorithm though. I just keep getting fed to sweaty 3 stacks of Diamonds or higher. infuriating.

Tonight was just as bad if not worse than it ever has been.  My brother and I (both probably gold players) getting killed by triple stack preds, masters, diamonds . . . anything but people our own skill level.

This is making me very curious as to several things, none of which you have to answer if you don't want me picking apart your unhappy relationship with matchmaking, but....

What was your highest ever rank?

How is your average k/d over the last few seasons?

Are you playing primarily in ranked, in pubs, or both?

I'm assuming, like me, you solo queue 99% of your games?

I ask because I often see threads where a player will have the same experience as you, and then later confess that they always used to solo to masters and now can't get past high diamond, and their k/d was always over 2.0 but now they can't break 1.8, etc. I know this isn't you, but I'd be curious to know if or how any of these factors play into the problem.
  • @reconzero I'm starting to wonder if the matchmaker doesn't understand what people like me what from matchmaking.

My average K/D is terrible in BR, around 0.25 this season. In arenas, it was always much higher, but still under 1.0. About 0.89 I think. I don't know what it is in mixtape, but I would imagine in between arenas and BR.
Anyway, my point is that my win rate is relatively high in mixtape, and in BR I rarely finish below top 10 or top 5, mainly because I play conservatively. I ping, hang back, try to figure out where people are before engaging. It's mainly either my aim, my 120 ping/poor hit reg, or my intense dislike of cheating and/or tap strafing that gets me melted.

    So, above average win rate.
    Well below average K/D.

I wonder if the MM looks at the win rate or placement as the "successful" match. Otherwise, I don't know why I keep getting MVP in so many matches when I've only done like 200 damage in the previous match against 3 stacks.

Maybe the devs don't understand that I could care less if I win or lose. I just want to play against other teams that are in the general area of my skill level. It's one thing to go against players that are somewhat better than me (so, kill me 3 times to my 1 kill, or something like that), but when you literally get melted by wingman pop shots or 1-clipped by volt headshots, how is that fun even if I end up winning thanks to one teammate with 20 kills?

I haven't really played ranked but the one season I did (S11?) I made it to gold and it was brutal. I was getting fried in Bronze lobbies by all kinds of smurfs and by the time I got to gold, I'd had enough. Now I solo queue Trios in pubs almost exclusively on PC, MnK. I'll occasionally party up with my brother and play Trios with random thirds and it is absolutely horrific most of the time.

My KDR is usually around 1.0, but with a ton of quit to lobby games. In reality, it is closer to 0.8.

I absolutely hate people complaining about their 2.0 KDR, too. That is some entitled, spoiled, whiny stuff right there.

I keep playing because I guess I'm a crack addict. I keep chasing that high when everything comes together for a 2k game, a 7-10 kill game, and/or a crazy win. The rest of the time, I'm strung out hearing voices in my head and screaming at buildings.

I wish I could explain it, gentlemen, but from what you're telling me I can't see any reason why you're being thrown to the wolves as often as you are. I'm not saying my matches are all cakewalks, but the instamelts are a thing of the past for me. If only because I can tell when I'm in that kind of lobby long before the bullets start to fly. And I leave them. But also because matchmaking has, I guess, got tired of trying to get me to play ball.

The only thing I can see that makes me wonder is this: "I keep chasing that high when everything comes together for a 2k game, a 7-10 kill game, and/or a crazy win." For me it looks a little more like: I keep chasing that high when everything comes together and I one-shot that last guy in the last squad before he could shield up from beating the #3 squad. That's a match that ends with 25 damage, 1 kill, and a win. That's my perfect match, and I'm pretty sure it flies under the algorithm radar. Though honestly, who knows how any of this really works....

I hate those matches. Run around for 15-20 minutes doing nothing as a team (boring) or individually (embarrasing) and then hit one lucky bullet FTW.

I don't expect to win all the time, but I want to have more success than I do and when I lose, I'd like itto feel more competitive. Dying repeatedly in embarrassing and humiliating ways sucks.

@reconzero For me it looks like: I keep chasing that high when everything comes together and my teammate doesn’t spit verbal obscenities at me. That’s a match that ends with me looking positively on humanity. That’s my perfect match, when I don’t experience people that make me think Thanos was right.

@LaughingSharko From my experience no fill queuing top 5 with very little damage and no kills will boost your lobbies. You are much better off fighting and dying early on. You will get the MM to lower you and you get practice fighting.

"Dying repeatedly in embarrassing and humiliating ways sucks."

So very true, and yet it's the nature of the multiplayer fps. I'd be willing to bet you that even the streamers would agree. It may happen to them a little less often, but I'm sure it still happens.

"I hate those matches. Run around for 15-20 minutes doing nothing as a team (boring) or individually (embarrasing) and then hit one lucky bullet FTW."

I'm not saying they're the most satisfying wins in the world, but I can definitely say that even the more conventional wins are pretty unsatisfying for me these days. Maybe I'm too old to care, too jaded, or just plain too burned out on the game. On gaming in general. Maybe it's time for ol' recon to take up finger painting.

    @BigMacAttack8u

My hat's off to you for not reflexively muting all squadmates in the lobby. That's pretty much my solution.
