Re: I still find it strange why we can't have map selection

Why?  Because it's a bad idea.

If you played Halo, you'd know exactly why.  There is always only one most popular map in the random selection.  Now that works if you have 20 maps to a degree, but it's still a bad idea from a development standpoint.  Even if you are picking from well designed maps, in the end, developers painstakingly work on a map, only for it to be constantly voted out.

Devs  and companies have no interest in doing work on something people don't play.  Even if you just want to stand where they're looking from, if you think a map is bad, THEY don't think their maps are bad.  Kings Canyon is my favorite example of what I think is a super trash map (all versions), but I promise you none of the devs thinks it's either bad or even if it was, unsavable.

Anyway, let's take that over to voting.  Players just pick what's popular.  If you are in the minority, and like a map that never gets picked, you're stuck always playing what other people outvoted you on.  You never get to play your favorite.

Map rotation makes far more sense in that people share play on their most and least favorite maps.  All the work Devs do and keep doing ends up paying off in their eyes.  Map selection ends up reducing what people play on, learning how to play in new maps, tosses out work, etc. etc.  I seriously doubt, with only 4 maps so far, and all the work that goes into each one, that you will ever see map selection.  And, like I said, I think it's a bad idea.

@KelRieverI have to disagree with you.

Firstly, I don't want to suffer though a map that I don't like simply because the developers wants to feel that their work was not for nothing. I've invested in this game because I thought it was fun, but to have the parts that I liked removed just because, that's not fair. It doesn't really matter how much effort the devs put in to making the map. If it's not well received by the players, it shouldn't be forced upon them. In the end, it's a lose- lose situation. I'm not having fun - ergo I'm not spending more money on the game.

Secondly, if the player had a choice I don't think that everyone would want to always play whats popular right now. I think that the taste is quite varied. But if the majority chooses a certain map over and over, then that should be valuable data for the devs. It tells them what the player like and don't like. If the devs take this into account and ask the community for feedback during the process - then I'm sure that the next map would be awesome!

Everybody has a most favorite and least favorite map.  Map rotation isn't going to stop people from playing the game if they hate one map so bad they have to wait an hour to play it (I don't think map rotations should ever be 2+ hours).

Except when a new map comes out, unpopular opinion, I am glad they keep it out for 2 weeks.  People are too critical of new maps, and need to learn what they are about before they go shooting off all their first impressions as fixed opinions.  The last 2 map releases are perfect examples of that.

@KelRieverMap rotation might not lead people to stop playing the game, but displeased customers will certainly not spend more money. That's just a proven fact.

When new maps are released they could do a lot of things to encourage players to try it out without forcing it upon them. There could be events, quests and special time limited game modes. Exclusive awards like skins, emotes and trials would certainly attract many players.

yeah but who says which loses more money? You’re assuming map selection is more popular, and it’s not with me for example.

I don’t spend on this game already but it’s because of some other things. Point is the same tho.

@KelRiever I believe you're of a rare breed mate. Haven't found anyone else that rather had their choice made for them instead of making it themselves yet, other than you of course.
And by the looks of this forum lately I'm quite confident that the majority would prefer to be choosing what map to play.

@Godisbullen I'm fine with the choice not being mine. I just want the half hour rotation.

@hayhorA half hour rotation would be awful. Some games takes up towards 30 minutes, which could leave you in a bad cycle where you'd have to play the same boring map unless you waited in lobby for the next map. I'm not into wasting time waiting around since I've got limited playtime/day.

I think most players have quite a limited play-time after work or school.

If you're unlucky with the current rotation times you could end up having to play most of your free time on a map you don't like.

@Godisbullen No game of apex BR takes 30 minutes. The final ring closes in about 22 minutes. So at a minimum you would get 2 games, assuming you start on the map change. The reason you mention about people having limited play time is the exact reason for a half hour queue. Right now the queues are 1.5 and 2 hours. This means you only see one map.

The other options don't work and here is why-
Random map every time you queue- People will see a map they don't want and quit to get a new map.
Selectable map- While this might work, it could lead to issues with queues on maps that may not be as popular. If the map that less people like has trouble queueing, those people will quit playing.

    @hayhor @Godisbullen

Have you guys heared about this new law in China or something where you can game only max 1 hour a day or something?

30 min rotation would allow them to play 2 maps before they clock out

@hayhor Good point about people quitting. I would always quit the lobby in CoD, if I got Nuketown. Absolutely hate that map and I refuse to play on it.

I feel like your idea of a 30 min rotation is the best one I've heard. Maaaaaybe 45 minutes at the absolute max. Current times are just too dang long.

@damsonwhufndthis I think it's only 1 hour each, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday now

@hayhor Selectable maps will lead to people playing the maps they want. if a map gets fewer players then the devs should listen to the community feedback and revamp that map. And if it's a brand new map they could always lure people in by events and special quests.
Completely random maps and the rotation that's going on now is basically just as bad. Either way I'll be forced to endure a map I don't like.
