Re: Leaks and spoilers - Discussion

@ExpertEpic99 I don't think they do. I'd guess they are told they can and it's probably planned.

  • @hayhor Devs are never allowed to do any kind of leaks. Most times the leaks come from testers and the amount of them has increased because of the work from home model that is way more insecure.

Leaks happen because devs need to build versions of the game that contain unreleased stuff in order to test & tweak. It's a pretty difficult job to remove all the extra stuff completely each time there's a new release version and also not a good idea to bloat the build with fake stuff to obfuscate the data miners. Therefore, there will be a lot of leaks in the future, as well.

However, this won't stop Respawn from making great teasers. There's only a few players that actually check the leaks, the vast majority of them don't care and enjoy the release of new content as it's supposed to be. This is why there's no need to spend too many resources to fight against leaks.

@DoYaSeeMe There have been leaks directly credited to devs with no denial. Actually the lead dev poked fun at it. Maybe some games its not allowed but it sure seems like the apex team is promoting it.
  • @hayhor Mistakes can happen, but leaking with intention can result in losing the job and maybe a lawsuit. They have NDAs, it's not like they can violate those without facing any consequences. It also depends on how serious the trouble is. Leaked upcoming content is not that big of an issue, I highly doubt it affects revenue or other important aspects of the game.

@DoYaSeeMe @hayhor I'm sure a lot of the leaks are deliberate and intentional. It's probably some sort of strategic marketing,  falling under the advertising banner 🥳

    Free publicity after all.

    @OldTreeCreeper Let's agree to disagree 🙂

Besides being illegal, there's no need for deliberate leaking. It's enough to have some WIP stuff left in the release, the community / data miners can be fully trusted to build some elaborate, valid context to it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems painfully obvious to me by this point that "Ezra_RC" is creating their posts with Respawn's blessing, if not at their direction.

@pandareno1999 This is what I’m gonna say as well. ThordanSmash even has an insider source who is an Animator that shows animations of some future “stuff” and he always gets mp3 files for future voicelines. This is how the Lifeline towntakeover got leaked with the legends’s voicelines for the med bay.
  • @DoYaSeeMe well epic games supported people who leaked their content but also limit what they can or not leak ( for example they mostly told leaker not to leak live event stuff or season pass content )

but there is unofficial leaker too that appeared on website like 4chan this is such rare case tbh

@Cheese9Man I don't really believe he's got any insider. That's more like a gimmick to make himself appear more credible. I'm pretty sure there are unreleased animations, sound files, textures, screenshots, 3d models in the released game files most of the times. They have to be there at certain moments and it's too difficult to keep removing them again and again with every release / patch.
  • @DoYaSeeMeThordan pretty sure doesn’t know how to datamine. The guy even plays apex on xbox. LOL.

With 300+ employees, I’m not suprised people leak stuff. Same with other industries not just in game development.

@DoYaSeeMe How is it illegal if the company blesses it? You are comparing it to other companies saying their way is the only way. This is not the case. They don't have to publicly admit it. It is an incredible way to keep a high profile without appearing to be advertising.

As cheese says thordan has no datamining background and I doubt he is lying about his source. I don't really care for him but I don't think he is a liar.

@Cheese9Man Leaks are nothing but companies trying to hype up their products lol. That's why whenever they talk about phone leaks I laugh cuz if a company really wanted to keep something under wraps they could.

    *Generally speaking

@ExpertEpic99 I don’t mean to belittle xbox players since I myself is a console peasant too. What I meant was all dataminers are on PC since you can’t really do datamining on a console. If I accidentally offended someone, I’m sorry. 🙇‍♂️

@Lord_Scorpion34 Yeah this is not always the case since the guy who leaked the biggest leaks a few months ago hacked Respawn’s servers to get the early builds. How can I tell he’s not from Respawn? He makes and sells cheats.

@Cheese9Man I was generally speaking lol. I didn't mean the game leaks in particular. I know game leaks are different. I was just saying any time most things are"leaked" that's not really the case.
  • @Cheese9Man Ohh nonono you haven't caused any offense or belittled anyone, I just found it hilarious that Thordan even plays on Xbox in the first place. 😂
