That's exactly what the new feature does, you sprint automatically at full tilt forward, and less than full tilt is normal speed, and less than half is sneaking.

It's good the way it is now, my left thumb will no longer feel like I hit myself with a hammer, and I can use the L3 keybind to use healing item now, which is sweet.
