Re: Which do you like blaming your loss for, Boosted Players or Smurfs?

@Asmodeus566 Oh, let me tell you the ways, Padawan, of the Smurf.  Deranking is easy peasy.

One way is to box yourself and wait until you gray out, which probably takes about 5 minutes if you dive solo off the map, but you have to make the effort to sit there and do that, or...

Another way is to disconnect and suck up the abandonment penalty.  This probably takes a minute or so, BUT you don't have to wait around and can do something else while you wait the 10 minutes and of course, you get double the max penalty for your rank, so...

...there are many ways to stay low, lower, lowest without effort or concern.

Yup that would be easy peasy but if I am a playing with someone that boxes themselves, throws themselves off the map etc.,  I will report them. It is their own choice but purposefully doing so is sabotaging other peoples games.

@Asmodeus566 Well, you believe reporting works and I suppose everyone at Respawn will tell you it does.  But there's plenty of reporting in every multiplayer game out there and smurfing goes on regardless.  So I'm going to say no matter what video game companies tell you, they don't really do much at all about smurfs.

I chalk it up to likely those smurfs still bring them in money they don't want to lose.

Actual cheaters and hacks cost game companies money, but lost of players diminish the effect of games for others, but game companies turn a blind eye.  Respawn included.

I mean there are enough posts here that support that reporting works and bans occur for various reasons: Collusion, hacking, saying bad things etc.

Lets just agree to disagree on this point and leave it at that.

@Asmodeus566 we don't even have to agree to disagree, I want reporting to work!  And I do think there is the rare case it does.

Where I have to disagree is that I don't see it really working close to enough.  The rest was all speculation as to why.  Also there are other games which have flagrant smurfing and thorough report systems.

It should be easy, really though. If you report someone for diving off the map or disconnecting, it's also two different things to prove.  One is more obvious, the map dive.  But I think the second, disconnecting, is not really provable versus accidental disconnecting.

That's why I also think Respawn biases the tier protection, because boosted players are a problem, but only if they play public, and that's one game and done, for one team.  A smurf is a problem for all the players of the game they are in.  Oh, and a boosted player getting slaughtered probably has limited entertainment value for the boosted player, whereas a Smurf is running rampant causing havoc ad nauseum.
