- @reconzero I don't see any real benefit. All it really does it give people something to work towards. It drives engagement and that's it.

Given that bell curve rankings will put most players at platinum, it always boggles my mind how willing people are to "work toward" mediocrity. I just can't see how a game that tells you "you're pretty meh" is in any way entertaining. All I can think is that it's the lottery mentality where people just convince themselves through sheer ego that they either are that good or will get that good with enough grind. @reconzero just to be clear, competitive and ranked are two separate things.
And I play 90% of the time ranked games. Why? Because at least i know that i will have teammates even after they get knocked, that i will not hotdrop because of stupid people and that i will have a decent paced game without seeing only 5 squads left when first zone closes.
Now tell me what's so good about pubs.

a) Please expand on the difference between competitive and ranked. I know what I think it is, but I'd just like to know if we're on the same page.
b) I'm truly surprised to hear anyone say that their ranked experience includes able teammates or enemies of roughly equal skill. That isn't the impression that I've picked up based on forum feedback.
c) What's so good about pubs? Given the poor implementation of SBMM in this game I can't say much positive about the pubs experience, although I would assume that the ranked experience was equally poor. Again, this is what I hear from other players on this forum, not based on personal experience beyond a handful of ranked matches.
When I have played ranked here, and what I remember from older games when I tried to take ranks seriously, is this: ranked players get toxic very quickly if they think you're deviating from THE META, even though they are themselves exhibiting a veritable catalogue of idiotic behaviors. This is a small but telling example of why rank ladders and team-based gameplay are completely (imo) incompatible. Assuming one solo queues. In general I would say that players across the board, in pubs AND ranked, exhibit idiotic behaviors with great regularity - but in ranked they're absolutely certain that everything they are doing is correct because they saw it on youtube, and for even questioning them they will call you names that you will have to look up. And as I said before, all for what? A badge that confirms you're in the 43rd percentile? - CCbathwater3 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Cro_PitttYou can leave in pubs. Well, you can leave in ranked too, but then you give the two dumb***** who are the reason you leave in the first place a free pass. If you could leave a ranked game without rewarding your teammates for being obnoxious griefers/toxic, I would probably prefer ranked.

There is more than one way to leave a ranked match, some of those ways being so passive-aggressive that it will push teammates to quit. At which point, correct me if I'm wrong, you get a pass to quit without penalty, or is it just no RP loss? @reconzero a) You can tell something's competitive when there is actually something on the line (money in this case). Ranked literally offers nothing as a reward (i don't consider a reward something like a charm or a dive trail). Also imo some people still play ranked as pubs games, and tends to do brainless pushes or actions. But in the end you could have a different perspective of the definition of competitive, so that's up to you i think.
b) Well this of course does not happen every game, but at least there's more consistency in ranked than pubs. And i feel also that on console the situation is actually better. I'm currently in Plat and i've not been put in Predator lobbies yet, but I can see it happens regularly on PC. Maybe a console predator player could confirm or disprove this.
c) It's far from ideal i'd say, but it's much better than pubs, based on my experience.
As for toxicity, i've experienced it, but not that much. In lower ranks picks don't matter, they only do partially in Predator lobbies i think, and even there you can win as Mirage or Rampart lol. If someone keeps being toxic i just mute them and play my own game. For example yesterday a French guy was complaining all the time because our JM did not hotdrop, but apart from this episode all other games were normal, with enough respectful teammates.
@CCbathwater A full time leaver calling other people toxic, funny lol. You always make the right decisions in game don't you?
- CCbathwater3 years agoSeasoned Ace@Cro_Pittt I don't hot-drop and die in 10 seconds, that much I know.
Well, I don't know about you, but when people shout f that and f you... maybe that's not toxic to you, and you stay and even invite them to play with you for the rest of the evening. If I am toxic for leaving, then fine. Whatever. O_O
I don't know, respectfully disagree. I do love it, but it's a game mode for fun, super fun, but I would not like to see people streaming youtubes and getting bent over how well they did over this.
