or better threading ?
I can't speak for their software issues, but let's try some memory management.
What are your RAM settings?
I am going to assume you are using Windows 10 or 11?
- Right-click on the This PC icon on the desktop.
- Left-click on Properties.
- Left-click on Advanced system settings.
- Under Performance left-click the Settings... button.
- Choose Advanced tab at the top.
- Virtual memory will be displayed, you can set this from here using the Change... button.
As a rule of thumb on systems with 16 GB and less;
Initial size (MB) should be RAM x 1.5 (e.g. 8 GB RAM x 1.5 = 12000 MB)
Max. size (MB) should be RAM x 3 (e.g. 8 GB RAM x 3 = 24000 MB)Never allow Windows to set it for you.
If you are running greater than 16 GB of RAM, try turning it off by setting No paging file. On systems with that much memory, it is writing too much to the drive. All that read and write time will slow you down. If you find the system works better then you should leave it, otherwise return to the default.
I hope this helps.
definitely software issue. Loading fully on one core during first launch and in main menu for a short period of time. It is kinda annoying to hear fans ramping up like i am cinebenching. Even Shiv agreed on stream when i told about this issue. No other game has this issue. I am still sus about crypto mining 🙂
@BradBury42Thanks for the additional info, I will check this out later tonight. I run this on Steam through Linux OS. I showed Windows to the door ages ago. I will check my system memory logs and follow up on an update. Dumping the game memory on one core, sounds absolutely caveman by today's standards. Maybe someone at Respawn compiled it in 32 bit? lol
Here is an update on my personal stats from the task manager;
Apex Legends PID: 8419 RSS: 4.4 GB CPU: 35% to 21%
Steam PID: 1479 RSS: 99.4 MB CPU: 0%
Steam Proton (aka wine) PID: 8339 RSS: 71 MB CPU: 1%Sorry the task manager does not break it down by core, but this shows a 35% spike on start then it drops back to 21% usage. It is nice to know the launcher and Proton is using about 170 MB combined and very little CPU at all. The total game is hogging 4.4 GB of RAM which is 8 times more than my whole OS is using. This is pretty typical of Windows games running on Linux OS. To anyone reading this thread, if you can afford it, I would highly recommend buying the new portable Steam Deck. It is built with Steam OS (Linux) to run thousands of their games. You can see many reviews on YouTube about playing Apex Legends on a Steam Deck.
