I know I should pay more attention to patch notes, but here's how I feel about it: if it literally takes dozens of paragraphs to document the changes you're making to one single season of your game then you either weren't getting it right before, and shame on you, or you're changing things for the sake of change, probably with some ill-concealed sense of desperation.
Respawn: the solution to your problems is not to continue to make the game more complicated, or to continue to make it harder to play.
Quick edit. Played a few rounds of s23 trios (not retro trios) and I'll stand by what I surmised would be true: meaningless changes that add nothing to gameplay except opacity, illegibility, and confusion. What even is the point of legends having unique abilities when you dump them at random all over the battlefield for anyone to pick up? I don't know if this is a permanent change or a temporary experiment, but the fact that it's a re-hash of that terrible LTM of a few seasons back makes me think that someone at Respawn likes the idea and wants it to be a part of the main game. First it's worthless laser sights that take valuable space in an already impoverished loot pool. Then it's allowing respawned legends to keep their shield and a gun. Then it's legend perks which are trivial in effect, but annoying in implementation. Now it's recycling every single bad LTM idea they ever had into the main game. All on top of some pretty tragic early-season sbmm. I don't know what else to say. It looks like they can't fix the most serious problems, won't fix many of the lesser problems, and try to make up for it with bad gameplay decisions and re-worked legends all in the name of giving the players nothing new while making them think they're getting something new. Solid D-.

Yes, I'm replying to myself.

In light of my observation that the game is too complicated and that even basic competency is out of reach for normal players, there is this from none other than the developer themselves:
https://www.videogamer.com/features/apex-legends-devs-admit-characters-are-too-complex-for-casuals-but-they-always-aim-for-base-level-simplicity/
They know themselves that their game is too complicated, too difficult, and a turn off to incoming players. And we're just talking about game mechanics here, not about the hostile matchmaking. This is what the game has come to.
