"It fixes so many things wrong with the main game."
What I'm reading here is, "It removes freedom of choice from players, which is good because so many of them choose to do the wrong things." And you would be right. People constantly make bad decisions in this game, and then double down on them with more bad decisions until death and defeat are inevitable. But I've said it before and I'll say it again: if the only solution to idiocy is to spoon feed the player base and put bumper guards up everywhere to prevent them from self-harming... I call that Disneyland. I don't need that in order to make good decisions and stay alive. Handing out free passes to people who are not so capable cannot be the answer. I don't know what is. But this isn't it.
And my personal experience in Revival did not involve people being more likely to stick around. I would solo, as I always do, and for the first time ever it was completely justifiable as a way of saving the other two who would shoot until dead, as children always want to do. And yes, they hung around for the first respawn. Maybe even the second. By the third death I think they just got tired of being killed by the same guy over and over, and by having an unhelpful and inscrutable teammate. Quit. Quit. Quit. Just like in regular trios.
And yes, this will dilute the player base and make the worst matchmaking in fps history even worse.

@reconzero Yes, if you were my teammate in this mode and you never helped take a fight I would leave too. I have no idea why anyone that plays like that would play this mode.
As for the MM being poor due to splitting the playerbase. I used to believe this. Then I realized the game is supposed to have millions of players and only needs 60 for a game......and still doesn't match correctly. Until SPEED of MM isn't the main requirement player count doesn't mean anything. Also, many playing this mode are likely more like me, they simply stop playing Apex when it isn't in the game. So we do not help MM in regular apex anyway.
More options = more players. You will never convince me otherwise.

I've always been a big believer that, in this game as in life, you have to pick and choose your battles. The KIDS take them all, every one they can find. And when one doesn't fall to hand they will literally sprint across the map looking for one. Without a thought in their head except, "I'm bored." What is a sane man supposed to do with that? And how could it not make an already risk-averse player even more cautious?

100% true. It's already so bad that even if a mode split made it worse then I doubt it would be noticeable.
In general I agree that more options makes for a better experience. I'm just bridling at this particular example because I have a suspicion that all of these takeovers and ltms are an indicator of ways in which the main game is likely to evolve. It's already so different than it was at the beginning, and most of the changes, imo, have not been for the better. One man's party is, as they say, another man's funeral.- AymCTL12 months agoSeasoned Ace@reconzero I agree about choosing your battles. I never like it when these kids want to hot drop and they rush right in and get shot, then quit. They think nothing about cover, how many players are present, where the loot is in relation to the nearest cover, etc.
One youtuber I watch says Apex is like a game of chess only with fighting. I agree with that. You have to consider positioning and not just rush into fights just for the sake of fighting. There are many other elements to the game like strategy and if you even have a chance of winning the fight depending on where you are in relation to the enemies.- hayhor12 months agoHero
@AymCTLYou can choose your battles in straightshot. You drop far enough away and the enemy team is highlighted on landing. You can easily rotate out of that spot and not take the first fight. Last night I had a lot of enemy teams doing that(it annoyed me lol). You can still rotate to zone, avoid all fights and let the lobby die for you. What you don't get forced into is hot dropping and that's a huge benefit.
