The E(Apex) Conspiracy

So I wanted to write this since January 1st so let us begin.

Ever wonder why Apex Legends was actually made or why the team and their superiors made the decisions they made/make. I have a theory about this so stick with me cause this won’t have a TL;DR at the end.

Apex soft launched without any marketing whatsoever, excluding the teased/leaked mention 1/2 days prior which is odd even for soft launches. If you don’t know what a soft launch is, it’s when a game launches without having a stated release date. BUT what they usually do have is that there’s been prior info about the game. Either the acknowledgement of the game or some teasers/trailers. Apex had non of this.

Then came the decision to not include solo’s/duo’s and only having the argument that it’s a team-based multiplayer. Well, except for the abilities, all of the other mechanics can be taken out to counter that argument.

Even the ‘rogue’ dev argument that people are freeloaders can fall into this theory of mine.

Lastly is the way the gane is managed. This includes economically, developmentally and even socially. Economically this game was/is a smash hit making hundreds of millions in revenue, yet they try to squeeze every dime out of willing cosmetical spenders while seemingly trying to penny pinch cost within the studio by not hiring more people. This is closely tied to the next point.

Developmentally: it started with the previous line but goes further. Developers are known to go above & beyond the cod to make their games the best it can be. Obviously these devs do that here too cause I’m not willing to believe that they’re not, but it’s evident to see that they’re under staffed to cope with all the issues in a timely matter without overworking themselves. This is also clear from the late website info updates regarding new legends, heirlooms and all. Which is tied to the last regarding this matter: socially.

On social media they announce a lot of changes and are eager to respond to people, yet it seems they only respond to certain categories of comments/questions. When people ask for map, SBMM, new legends and stuff, it seems every comment is ignored. Not even a mention that they can’t divulge info is uttered or that they just don’t know. But when people state that they like the new heirloom, like new modes or the map or skins, all of a sudden, Respawn or Apex twitter responds, which I find weird. Not all from the previous are positive, heck, I’d be surprised if even 1% asks politely or is worded neutrally. But even those don’t get a reply, which led me to put up my tin foil hat and start thinking.

What if Apex Legends is a socially based experiment ‘made’ by EA to test how gamers respond to being ignored.

Let me elaborate. Social experiments tend to provoke ellicit reactions. Usually strong emotions. People tend to not like it to be ignored. Especially not by someone they like or a company they feel they have a certain ‘bond’ with.

EA knows out of most gaming companies they tend to fare (anongst) the worst in public opinion. So what better company to actually make a game they knew people would like, since it’s already set in a universe that people like and know, and would have strong opinions about. So they make this game in which initially they do most things right, but then over time they fade out by way of not updating the game regularly, not upgrading their game, try to maximize profits (which for a company is just business obviously) by putting skins behind a paywall and insisting they’re learning and adapting from player feedback, yet show they do minimally about it and lastly ignoring a large part of their playerbase.

This is all done to know how a succesful game can still go under due to bad management so they won’t have to make these mistakes in future games, especially since the new generation of consoles is upon us which basically equates to higher costs making games and maintaining studios. This is why the penny pinching is in place. They want to see how far they can go before this game is actually 6 feet under and when that happends see the aftermath and know what they can expect IF this were to happen in future games which’ll be a lot pricier.

EA’s public opinion can only go up from here so it’s not like they should/would care about repercussions and seeing that they got their money back at least 10 times over, it’s not like they made a loss.

This is my tin foilhat theory.

What do you think.

PS: if you read this all you have no life and should seek help. I offer my services for 5 euros a 10 minutes :P
