Good, Better, Trash... all relative. First, stop playing ranked. Ranks are a fetish best left to people who believe that they tell something of value to other people. The only thing they tell me is that there will always be someone who is better than I am. As if we didn't already know that.
Second: I have a career 18k matches and, like you, I can't hit the broad side of a barn except with a triple take or a charge rifle. Put me in CQC and forget about it. My aim is, I guarantee you, as bad or worse than yours. 20 years of Halo didn't help, and no amount of practice here will help either.
Situational awareness, on the other hand, can and will be learned, but it doesn't come overnight. And it will come even more slowly if you continue to focus on shooting, or any other thing at which you can't improve. Pick a mobility legend, focus on understanding where enemies drop, where they move, and how to get where you need to be without alerting them to your presence. (It goes without saying that you need to forget about your teammates for the time being - learn this skill set now and later you'll be able to bring it back to the team... if they chose to take advantage of it.) So use your movement and stealth skills to put yourself into position to pick off enemies in the final five, four, three, what have you. A lot of players consider this kind of tactic to be cowardly or lazy. The word they're searching for is "smart," and the only reason they don't do it themselves is because most of them are primates who lack the attention span that real strategy requires. Don't be them.
Third: Now that you stopped thinking about kills and started thinking about survival you are beginning to understand the true mainspring of this game. Your hot drop Harry teammates won't thank you, but Respawn sees the low kill count and gives you a low mmr to go along with it... a place where your aim suddenly seems relatively better. That's where I live. That's where my 10% win rate is made. Am I making it against masters and preds? No. Do I care? No. I've found a meta that works and I stick to it and it provides me with fun. That's what the game should be after all.
Best of luck. STOP thinking about RANKS.

"Ranks are a fetish best left to people who believe that they tell something of value to other people."
It is how others will judge me. This is how I look at myself, as someone who has gamed for almost 35 years, and this being the pinnacle of my achievements.
35 DAMN YEARS AND I CAN ACHIEVE BRONZE.
And as for positioning, I can position the day away. Go on distant drops, but it doesn't matter if I encounter a squad at some point. I died to a blue evo when I had red, because I had spent time killing spiders, prowlers and sentries in the armory. Being sneaky only goes so far if you can't win a simple fight.
I'm not in denial though. People are right. This is what I deserve, is to be in this rank. All I have to show, for all of my experience, is being in the bottom 15% of millions of gamers.
F'n gg me.
