Chasing kills is not a winning strategy, especially for lower skill level players. The best chance to win for a below-average player is to get only 1 fight in the game - the last one (and spend all game safely looting for better gear). The more fights they take, the less chance they have to ever even see that last duel at all.
Don't judge other players for not wanting to play how you want. Everyone is playing to win however they think is best for them. If you go play random squads you have to adapt in every single game. If you play for kills, well that's your choice, but don't judge people who play to win.
I have >50 wins but I would still consider 100% hiding/avoiding fights the optimal strategy to win, especially now that I get 2-3 care packages for free pretty much every game (everyone seems to be so focused on killing that they completely ignore the best loot in the game...).
P.S. The only way to get better, faster and more efficient at looting is to actually do more looting. I was extremely slow figuring out what goes with what and what I will need at start too.
