I say this being neither a rubbish player nor an excellent one.
The problem with joining groups is that pretty quickly you're either going to want to politely decline certain invitations (leading to offense) or be politely (at best) declined.
Skill based MM is desperately needed because most people neither want to be an anchor nor want to be anchored to people less skilled than them.
