@TrueAltraI own two dry cleaners. I have 16 employees. I pay better than minimum wage and above my industries averages. I also provide benefits that others in my industries don’t. I’m very fortunate to have good staff that help put my business in the top 1% of our industry and stay there. so I try to take care of them and help them. The nice part is that because I help them, they do it in return. I was in the hospital for a week last year running a fever of 104, an unknown virus. I was unable to work for a month and lost about 34lbs (18% of my body weight). My staff took care of the business flawlessly.
We survived the 2008 Economic recession, when a high percentage of cleaners were going bankrupt. During the recession my businesses income was down 70% but I still managed to provide all benefits and bonuses.
I do what I can for my employees and treat them like an asset and people. I also view them as coworkers. I try to spend a little time each month working every job along side them. I feel this keeps me informed on what’s going on in the business, my staff and what businesses needs are. Yes there are times I have to be the boss so to speak. But I make sure I’m never a bad boss or act like a king.- 6 years ago
