Why am I so bad with the Wingman?

So I ran a couple matches of TDM last night, to finish up my weekly challenge for 15k pistol damage. My first match, I went the entirety of the contest with 0 kills and 3 assists, BUT had over 2,800 damage. That's definitely my 0-kill damage record, Lol!

What in the world, though?!?! I'm not bad at the game. I can aim with other weapons. I wreck with the G7, but whiff most of my shots with the Wingman? I had the 2x on it at first, but eventually tried the 1x digi, and still couldn't manage to snag a kill. I don't get it. Any Wingman tips, aside from "git gud"? It makes no sense to me, especially when I dropped 16 kills and nearly 4k damage in the next match, using nothing but the dang P2020.

  • @dSKyNafinchin Will mainly come down to three things, aim wich you state should be solid so that one is out.

Second the pistol ads speed screwing you over.

Third “nervousness“ causing you press your mousebutton to hard throwing your aim off.

I’d say it’s mostlikely the nervousness. So just play it more and it goes away ☺️
  • @dSKyNafinchindoesn't Wingman recover all of it's recoil before you can shoot again?

which brings me to that Wingman has a really slow, almost shotgun firerate, means if it has sliver of hp, anyone with gun that has higher firerate can steal your kill, all the time between shots allows enemy to retreat sometimes

most of the guns in Apex are similarly strong, which is why you can do enough with just P2020

@matzesingt I feel like your 3rd point is spot on, for me. Now that I think about it, I tend to tense up when I'm having a battle using the Wingman. Not sure why, but I definitely don't do it with the 2020.

@damsonwhufndthis Also a great point, and likely what causes me to tense up. I think I'm trying to anticipate the fire rate too much, in order to place my shots. Compared to the 2020, where I'm not as worried about hitting every single shot.

I think I need to just go into the Firing Range and utilize the new dummy mechanics, so I can practice with it more, and try to get more familiar with the rate of fire. I notice that I pull the trigger too early, fairly frequently with the Wingman. I don't need to treat every weapon like I'm firing my Dye DM5, Lmao!!!

Thanks for the input, both of you! Made me think about what I'm physically doing when shooting. Off to the Firing Range, I go!
  • @dSKyNafinchin  I actually just remembered that the Wingman does not have the same ads speed penalty than other weapons - you move faster so it will mess with what you are used to. Don't know if it was nerfed but I remember reading this some time ago. Also the sensitivity of the weapon feels faster to me than others, not sure, but feels different for sure.

  • @dSKyNafinchinYou aren't alone. I, for one, hit my shots well about 20% of the time. The other 80% my enemies seem to be able to weave around my shots like bullet time Neo in The Matrix.

It is a great feeling to get a kill with the Wingman, but it just doesn't happen often enough for me to use it regularly.
