I know they have tried to improve it, and I think scaling kill points against opponent skill is good, but the graduation can be fine much better without making it too easy to climb. Within each rank there have to be better depictions of skill between say a IV and I of the same rank

@KelRieverone additional point I want to make - many say here and in other threads that hiding/ratting is no skills bla bla bla.
I would not agree with that statement.
Apex is a game of probability, risk mitigation, creating advantage to overpower similarly skilled opponents.
This point is proved by the gameplay you see from top Predators, in competitions where takes are pretty much all or nothing and everyone is very good. Players there play by the well known book/strategy = land near other team, contest for early KP where a lot of advantage is created based on the pure loot lottery if succeeded or failed rotate in ASAP to get best position = least risk of 3rd party, repeat.
The plays you mention about hotdropping, killing a lot of squads just does not work unless it is frag movie done by smurffing Pred on Platinum level or Pubs or inactive player who just came back from playing another FPS game = same skill set and instant spill-over effect.
Usually ideal game for pros = 3-6 KP first fight, rotations + some random easy kills hunting down not full teams / solos, poking at ongoing fight from the distance, 3-6 KP in the zone 3-5 or even 4-5, lottery in the last zone unless significant advantage is gained like being able to third party the last fight. From there you see games like 3+3 KP and 1st place which gives more than needed RP and constantly boosts you over the competition as your average is so much higher even in comparison to people who win 1 max game and then go negatives 2-3 times in a row.
Getting back to my point - ratting/camping/hiding is just risk mitigation. In some cases you just get pushed by the 3rd party at the worst time = run with 0 KP or stay, get KP but die and end on negative RP, enemies land some crazy shots that make you fall back, you get bad loot, multiple teams for whatever reason switch focus from each other to you and fry you, etc. So many cases where you just have to go ratting, back off, maybe end up in the zone 4+ with 0 KP and maybe even 0 damage...that's just Apex and it is still better than throwing a hail marry, and in the majority of the cases end up dying and with negative RP no matter how many KP did you get.
Ratting/hiding/camping is also a skill and players who do it well also succeed in this game - I guess we all have been in situations where a team of 3 people just drop on you out of nowhere or where you start pushing what seems to be a solo player, overexpose yourself and then get fried by actually 2 more teammates of what seemed solo player hiding on the flanks. Dirty tricks yet part of the game, otherwise one team would win always = aka strongest always wins aka one that shoots best always wins.
