Apex legends 100% Cpu usage

Hi, I have a problem with cpu load 100% and some freezes during the game, while using the video card at most 20-40%.

My configuration: i5 7400, gtx 1060 6gb, 24gb ram.

Saw in another thread a solution to update the bios, helped only for one day, then everything is the same. Also tried reinstalling the game, video card and processor drivers, disable processor boost, did not help. Configured separately r5apex.exe through Nvidia control panel, added to antivirus exceptions, also no change. In other games I didn't observe such problems

From background applications only discord and steam.

Im not an expert but there are a few things i use to speed up my sons pc may help.

Have you checked the nvidia 3d setting below is not set to auto?

    Configure Surround, Physx

If it is, try setting it to your "nvidia gforce gtx/rtx" instead.

Works really well putting the video load onto the gpu, taking it away from the cpu. Esp good if you have 2 monitors going.

    Got this tip from  @E9ine_AC

An issue I ran into with youngtree's pc, was that he was also filling his dell sd up. He only has a small sd drive for system stuff and a 1T HD for data. If you are running everything on 1 HD, then fragmentation can also be a problem.

Is your drive over 75% full? If so these are things I do:

I moved the system page filing from the sd to a the HD. Can also be moved to a seperate drive.

Nvidia cashe dumps can be enormous, esp the DX cashe. I just delete all but the most recent every now and then.

    Users/name/appdata/local/nvidia

Ccleaner for cleaning up the drive including the registry (free)

    https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner

Windows disk cleanup to get rid of old Windows update files.

To defragment (only for HD not for sd drives) defraggler

I defrag files only monthly then complete defrag of drive every 4 months or so. (free)

    https://www.ccleaner.com/defraggler

Also system/storage can show more categories, can show you where things are clogging the drive. Esp apps and features. A real culprit here for us was the clip champ app and old installations.

Another issue was: in a windows update my son's pc HD was reset to sleep after 20 min, crashing apex consistantly. I put it back as I previously had it to never sleep and all was well.

Temperature may be another issue. I use Speccy to keep an eye on my laptop temp, windows 10 dosnt give that specific info. It's free too. Installed a second silent Noctura fan to exaust the case. Made over a 10 degree difference.

Have you checked the nvidia 3d setting below is not set to auto? | Yes, I configured through nvidia control panel, through blogs and videos looked and set the optimal settings.

Configure Surround, Physx, | Thanks, I just replaced it from auto to my GPU

Works really well putting the video load onto the gpu, taking it away from the cpu. Esp good if you have 2 monitors going. | No, solo monitor And i have 1tb SSD so I don't need to do defragment?

Nvidia cashe dumps can be enormous, esp the DX cashe. | I just delete all but the most recent every now and then. In NVIDIA folder was only 2 files 1kb each

Another issue was: in a windows update my son's pc HD was reset to sleep after 20 min, crashing apex consistantly. I put it back as I previously had it to never sleep and all was well. | Never had that issue, will know

Temperature not a problem, i clean up my PC every 3-6 month with changing thermal paste on cpu and gpu, and checking temp with Coretemp, never went higher than 45 degrees.

In general THANKS, I'll be in touch and let you know if it worked.

All I can say is it runs fine on my sons pc now, and thats 6 years old. But both he and I have fiddled with a lot of the settings.
