Friends,
Something is really bad with game’s optimization and/or nvidia’s drivers. I play at 3440x1440 at 200 Hz with i9-9900k (all-core@5.1 GHz) and RTX 3090 (also OC’ed and running stable across whole game at 2100 MHz, 21.5 Gbps memory). All in-game settings max’ed out. FPS cap at 190. Conclusions:
- at this resolution I am GPU-limited, that’s obvious however having 90% of the GPU usage in lobby is not fair as graphics shall not be as much demanding,
- without a grass I can see 70-85% of the GPU usage in average, 190 FPS locked; on the grass it goes 100% with FPS down to 120!
- Moreover, taking a grassy example from above, changing only the texture filtering down from 16x to bilinear reduces GPU usage by 20%! Something is really wrong because TF shall not be so heavy nowadays...
- Sun shadows - in Titanfall 2 I can set shadows to 2048 resolution without noticeable impact on performance, in Apex changing from Low (512) to High (1024) is another 10 FPS drop. Very strange.
- when in Lobby you may notice much higher GPU usage (by around 15%) after the match than before - changing view to legend’s details view while in Lobby and switching back to Lobby again eliminates this 15% increase. It looks like performance leakage to me.
- comics - why the heck this blurry smoke takes 100% of the 3090? Comics pages makes my GPU to sweat.
- Nvidia Reflex - another nice thing to introduce micro-stuttering. The best driver was 452.06, whole 456.xx and 457.xx stutters due to bad (?) reflex implementation (in driver and/or in-game). And btw. +gfx_nvnUseLowLatency is *, it does not change anything latency-wise no matter if it is on or off (system’s latency is the same and equal to Low Latency Mode = Ultra). It seems that Reflex is permanently turned on and cannot be turned off (therefore it is stuttering all the time?)
Uff, have a lot more of such examples. I am sure nobody from Respawn is going to invest their time to read this post. But more or less feedback is clear: since World’s Edge you should focus on performance improvements!
All the best.
