Re: Texture Streaming Budget keeps setting to low 2-3GB

@EA_Kent I tried taking the command lines off, but it doesnt help the problem, also, i disabled geforce experience optimization a while ago because something similar was happening, but only happened when i opened the game, now it is every time i close settings, it just goes back to 2-3GB Low. Also, the issue seems to be triggered when i join a Friend on my friends list, or someone joins my party, dont know if its strictly cross platform since its happened with PC friends and Console friends, might be the new EA friend UI that causes a bug or something.

    Thanks for the info, everyone.

Are you all playing with G-Sync or G-Sync Compatible activated at the moment? If so, can you try disabling it to test and see if that makes any difference at all?

    /Kent

  • @EA_Kent i can't speak for the others, but I myself am playing on a non g-sync laptop, I hope our answers can help find a solution sooner! thanks for taking the time to reach out!
  • @EA_Kent  Disabling G-Sync in the Nvidia control panel did not stop the texture streaming budget from resetting to Low (2-3 GB).

(I should point out too that I'm using a Freesync monitor with G-Sync, though my particular monitor is approved by Nvidia, and Nvidia makes the setting basically transparent (you can't tell if your monitor is Freesync or G-Sync from the Nvidia control panel, as everything is refered to as "G-Sync or G-Sync compatible")).

I am also not using Geforce Experience as it caused huge headaches for Arma and Red Dead II.

    Got it, thanks!

Are you able to change the value for the Texture Streaming Budget from the video config file at all? You should be able to find the videoconfig.txt file at:

    C:\Users\[Your User Name]\Saved Games\Respawn\Apex\local

Once you have the file open look for the "setting.stream_memory" value. The value for Very Low should be 160000, and Low would be 300000, so if it's defaulting to either of those settings you should see one of those two numbers. Can you try manually adjusting that value to see if it allows the settings to stay changed in-game?

Let me know how it goes when you've had a chance to try it out.

    /Kent

  • Hello, same problem here!

@EA_Kent  I triyed that but when I open the game, the setting is in low, and when I check the settings file, it changed to "400000".

Hope this help, very annoying bug, It seems like I'm playing in a mobile when I have a RTX 2080 XD

  • @EA_Kent  My results are the same as @Faraday64. The "setting.stream_memory" variable is 400000, (not 300000 or 160000).

Strangely, the changed setting seemed to only be written to the settings file after opening the settings menu, (let me explain). Having played a game where I noticed the low texture budget, I opened the settings file (videoconfig.txt) in Np++, but the stream memory setting still showed 2000000 (what is apparently the "High (6 GB)" texture streaming setting). When I alt-tabbed back into Apex and opened the settings menu, however, it showed "Low (2-3 GB)" for the texture streaming setting and Np++ prompted me that the file had changed on disk (and to reload). Upon reloading the file it showed 400000.

  • I think I found what causing this problem. It happens to me ONLY when I play with my friend through crossplay. He is on PS4 and I am on PC.

I play only with randos and it still happens, I think it is some issue with crossplay though, like if you get a crossplay teammate who is not PC it drops the settings to theirs/non-pc, perhaps?

So I MIGHT have stumbled upon a fix. Noticed in GeForce experience that the “current” settings for Apex indicated Texture Streaming Budget with a hyphen. I fiddled with the GeForce settings and applied the same ones I had previously. Now the Texture Streaming Budget is set to “Auto”.

Need to play a few games but the couple times I’ve booted apex the setting was correct...

    Thanks for the updates everyone.

@UDMauler Are the settings still sticking for you after doing that?

I have this problem too. Why does this game have so many bugs every update?

I never use Geforce experience and there have not been this problem until season 5.

Please fix this ASAP. This is really annoying.

  • Hi @EA_Kent,

I have tried this as well but whether it is set to Auto or not, in-game the settings keep reverting back to Low...

Hi, i got confirmation that this is being looked at, but a patch will be required to fix for good, so for now, when cross-playing when you start a match your texture streaming budget will be reset to Low. It may help to mitigate the impact of this by making other video settings changes to smooth things out.

Marking this as solved just for visibility. The issue is still under investigation.
