For those who wonder why there's no AI in Portal, it's because enabling AI in Portal forces the server to restrict as much XP as possible, this is nonsensical if Modifiers, Restrictions or the Rules Editor is untouched as this would make the Portal server identical to that which is found in "All-out warfare". The only difference being that the host decides which maps to play on and that the server is persistent.
The new Ground Superiority and Air Superiority modes force the XP to be Moderate, why? By default the game modes have ZERO vehicles in the game, so by adding them, the XP immediately becomes Moderate. I am so confused by this oversight. The "Restrictions" tab which is where choosing the number of vehicles is found shouldn't have anything to do with XP as they don't affect difficulty but vehicle numbers, honestly the only time there should be an XP reduction is when certain scenarios occur such as disabling Stingers and RPGs but allowing Vehicles, is it difficult to set Portal up to recognize such imbalances and apply restrictions accordingly in these scenarios? I don't know. As it stands, Portal quite simply punishes hosts for attempting to host a server that makes up for what "All-out warfare" lacks.
It's simple really, I want to host a fully vanilla server that is identical in nature to "All-out warfare servers" with DEFAULT AI, on both Portal Maps and Standard Maps but I can't. Because the XP restriction system is absolutely nonsensical.
AI and the Rules Editor are currently the only options that affect XP gains. So if you notice that changing other Restrictions are impacting XP, that sounds like a bug to me which I'll flag with the team to check out.
I've also forwarded the request to enable AI use so the team can review for further options.

- 4 years ago@Straatford87 Why is there a penalty for rules modifier? I just want to play hardcore and not be punished. Can we plz get an official hardcore server permanently. I want to play but I just can’t do the vanilla. Literally begging y’all at this point!!!!!!!
- direct3r4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Straatford87 the options for restricting the xp need to be checked after those restrictions went in...
for example friendly fire on gives less xp which doesn't make any sense, it does not make farming xp easier nor does it give any advantage, even more it's the opposite - DominickB34 years agoSeasoned Ace@Straatford87 There's been a large group of players in these forums that have been begging to get full xp with AI in either Solo/Co-op AoW or portal with no modifiers except AI game fill since it was taken away one day after the game came out.
- 4 years ago@DominickB3 Probably because the grind sucks and the better weapons are at higher levels.
- 4 years ago@Straatford87 I can understand the AI penalty but why rules modifier. I just want to play hardcore and not be punished.
- 4 years ago@Straatford87 AI is the only way some of us can even play your game due to the number of players in the region(i.e. Australia/Oceania) and/or servers with hackers (Asia and Oceania) add back the XP and weapon unlocks please. It may bring more people back to the game

@Straatford87 I’m pretty sure what the OPs trying to say is that before the season 2 update went live & revamped the UI and how Official Portal modes worked, there were like 3 modes (air/ground superiority counting as one of those) that were official dice portal game modes (the main modes that display on the main portal tab, weekly) that 1.) allowed bot backfilling when you joined, 2.) didn’t have a “x amount of players required to start” restriction & 3.) it gave full xp/full mastery xp/mission progression even though it was a match full of bots on both teams. Seems like an obvious oversight that was in game since launch, but was noticed by DICE at some point then it was finally “fixed” for season 2, effectively removing all of the official portal game types that had bot matches and full,xp across the board. And no, it clearly wasn’t a bug as you said in a previous comment. Your DICE devs obviously have access to features that the community does not, so clearly, you can enable full bot matches and still allow full unlocks, xp, weekly mission progression and weapon progression. The way it was setup was like it is in AOW… when there isn’t enough human players, the server back fills with bots. All this was doing was giving people access to matches full of bots because it wouldn’t put human players in due to crossplay being turned off… and honestly, that’s how it should be.

Many players turn “crossplay off” and enjoy bot backfilled-only matches, and when those weekly missions rotated in (rush and air/ground superiority were a couple of the modes that allowed bot backfilling without restricting xp), it was great because we had access to full progression unlocks AND full bot matches, being just like a match in solo/co-op.. but with access to full xp/weekly mission progress/mastery xp. DICE obviously decided that they no longer wanted players to have fun & control over how they rank up/earn progression in portal matches, so the backfilling was removed. Again, it wasn’t a bug, it was just the same feature you guys turn on in AOW when there aren’t enough players to fill the match.
I honestly don’t think it’s right that bots were introduced to bf2042 but so many restrictions were put in place, a year later, to extremely limit how we play the game. Why is it okay to have a solo mode with moderate xp (and no weekly mission progression or ribbons) with no “x amount of players required to start” that’s completely farmable but as soon as you wanna so the same exact match in portal with bots, the xp rules change? Why not just allow full progression and xp and weekly mission progression in solo/co-op if this stuff was removed from official portal game modes? Not everyone should be forced to play with crossplay on to get access to all game unlocks. I just don’t understand why there’s so much gatekeeping with features… and it’s not some “bug” like you said in your other response… it was a feature that DICE allowed, then removed. More likely, it was enabled early on by mistake and now it’s just gotten corrected in season 2.
DICE should just allow full unlocks of xp/mastery/weekly missions in solo/co-op for the ppl who live in bad areas (in relation to servers), who don’t have time to grind constant matches against live players or just don’t wanna play against live people and the problem would be solved! There’s no reason to limit your community. If it’s about money and getting more people to buy season pass ranks… It’s not gonna stop them from buying the ranks cause not everyone has time to grind thru all 100 ranks in a season, so there should be no worry that it’ll give less sales or cut into profits. People would actually play more and buy more if there was more freedom in how and where we rank up. If we didn’t feel so screwed over and we just had the ability to enjoy the game the way we want, I guarantee you that players would feel more inclined to spend more on a game from devs they feel respect them. It’s just baffling that so much goes into putting bots and stuff into the game , then so many restrictions and “you will play the way we say” type of restrictions are also put in place.
I hope you understand that this is constructive criticism and not an attack. It’s baffling that DICE puts so many things in place to go against their players and they wonder why people are vocal and won’t fully support bf2042. I mean, even talking about stuff in the media… the headlines of “the next game will have a campaign” and “future BF games will have specialists again” further pushes away players cause they feel DICE and EA are already moving on and are done with 2042. Who wants to spend more money on a game where even the devs are making it known they’re moving on? If anything, it tells people not to keep buying the BF games cause this is how we’re treated. I really hope you listen and take these ideas and suggestions to heart and make bf2042 better. It’s not an insult, it’s just facts. The community repeatedly tries to say what makes them happy and how to improve the game, yet a year out and DICE won’t listen. On a basic level… does it really matter about bot backfilling and full xp? Why not just give us that full xp/full progression? Is DICE really against letting players not rank up the way they want? At the very least… you could make it so that season pass holders only get access to solo/co-op and full xp, ensuring people spend money. The base game, players could be limited so that bot backfilling in all modes doesn’t activate. Im not saying it’s the best idea, but the removal of bot backfilling with full xp in portal was clearly to ensure people grind more and buy individual ranks in the season pass. At the very least, season pass owners would gain access to extra features, giving them more ways to rank up.
I say Just give the people more freedom how they rank up, earn full xp, mastery and weekly missions… and the game will be enjoyed more and people will spend more. It never works out for devs when they tell the community how to play. All other games that did this and failed should be the proof needed.
Alright. I’m done with the looong comment. DICE either listens and changes things or blocks it out (like what keeps happening on the forums, Twitter, Reddit, etc) and the game continues to get worse while the player base dwindles. I say just give us the freedom and everyone wins! I appreciate your time if you do read this. I Hope this makes a difference. Take care!
