I would be fine with removing spotting altogether if they could perfect the sound in the game.

I welcome the return of a more traditional 3D spot (BF1 had it pretty spot on in my view (excuse the pun!)) although I do accept the is far to much passive 'gadget spotting' in BF2042.

When playing with friends and Discord you don't need it.
But when playing "alone" with random players in your squad, 3D spotting is usefull for a basic teamplay.
There is soo many ways to be spotted already in the game, it won't change much while allowing more teamplay.
On the paper i like it even if i remember the problems in older BFs. We have to see if it a good tool like we hope, or a personal scanner for sniper camper has it has been abused in older BFs...
Happy to see it back, but crossing my fingers to have it less powerfull than it has been.

In the end we won't really know for sure until we get it if it will be good or not.

In its current state no one is pinging enemies, out of the 64 people in a team most of the time I see 3 people pinging an enemy. That just show how bad the current ping system is, so a change is needed (and perhaps 3D spotting will make people ping more).
Just play a custom game with AI bots and notice the difference in pinging. Its like day and night. AI bots ping everytime!

I have to admit that I'm inclined to agree.
What worries me is there are already way too many ways to be shown up on the mini map.
Unsuppresed fire.
Recon grenade.
Rao hack.
Paik visor.
Vehicle spotter seats and pulse.
Soon to be included is the Tugs.
With 3d spotting it feels like we might as well just have a dot on the minimap the whole time.
Yes I've played portal games with the 3d spotting on and I wasn't a fan.
I know. Maybe I'm overreacting but it just feels like too much from where I'm standing.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
- LamicroszX3 years agoRising Scout@WorksAtGoogle I could be wrong but I thought they limit how many ping you can see. like only for squad or something like that

- Unsuppressed fire likely exist to make suppressor/subsonic ammo attractive. I have seen some comment that they didn't do anything much in Battlefield 1 and V (although hiding the hit marker is great and that's enough to convince me)
- Prox sensor will only available to Recon after class update. That should reduce them a bit. (also they seems to be put into gadget slot now too) But I still think it's hard or annoying to counter in some situation compared to Spotting Flare that you can just shoot at them.
- Rao and Paik probably here to make them "Recon" (Spotting role)
- Spotter seat can't do anything beside spot so it need people with teamplay mind to sit in it and likely not attractive to all player. Pulse can be gone btw Dont know about PC, but on PS5 you can literally run around and shoot WHILST spamming the R1 (spot) button, revealing the location or pinging it for anyone on your team or squad.
With the return of 3D spotting, stealth and flanking is literally impossible even if you equip the silencer and silent rounds.
What is DICE trying to do here I just no longer understand.
- UP_Hawxxeye3 years agoLegend@LancySchemer if you were seen by someone then you were not that stealthy
