@zakrocz He is. Each specialist gets one gadget only for them (Boris' turret, Falck's styrette pistol, Irish's deployable cover/trophy system, etc.) and the other gadget slot can be anything. Likewise the weapons can be any weapon you have unlocked. Want Casper the Friendly Recon to have an LMG and an M5 Recoilless? Sure. Want Big Beefy Boris to run and gun with an SMG and a medic crate? Why not.
I think I liked the class system better overall just because it was simpler. I like being able to use the same gun no matter who it's on, but some of the specialist gadgets are far better than others, which is why everybody's playing Falck and Sundance. And that only leaves one free gadget so you can take, say, the repair tool OR the M5 OR the Stinger. So you can either play support and be helpless against vehicles, or you can fight back but can't repair anything. It's weird and takes some getting used to.
