Am I the only one seeing this contradition?

There are many thing that bother me regarding BF2042. And for most if not all of them, I know I am in agreement with most of the community (maybe all except Stew360 😉 ).

But very often I hear here as well as on all other BF related websites how it could happen that EA and Dice so COMPLETELY misjudged what the players wanted. How they could not see what was desired by almost all of us. How could they develop a game that does not deserve the name Battlefield and still give it that name?

(as an aside to Stew: please refrain from posting that we are the vocal minority and many players actually like the game because it is fun and what we actually wanted. Don't -- or do that and then use the same post to explain the drop in player count and the inability to find matches for people not living e.g. in the US or Central Europe).

Am I the only one asking myself how it came to pass that the community, the investors and the employees -- if this was really what was said at the town hall meeting -- really seem to believe this narrative? EA/Dice being completely unable to judge what player wanted -- when AT THE SAME TIME! we discuss how they have proven to know very well long before release what we were looking for. What we expected of the next Battlefield game? The have deliberately lied to us by producing a trailer that depicted something we wanted to see while at the same time producing the game we now discussing here while waiting for it to be fixed with the slim chance of this ever being the case at all.

How could they at the same time:

a) not know what the community wanted and

b) produce a trailer showing almost exactly what we wanted

A) and B) are mutually exclusive (at least in my book) and the only explanation that makes sense to me would be that they knew what we wanted (otherwise they could not produce trailer and short film) and deliberately lied to increase sales by showing a trailer that had nothing to do with the tone of the game. That part worked well I would say. But then they must at the same time not care one bit about the aftermath, expecting this to be forgotten and expected to be not realized by the community if they just later just told us: "Sorry, we just didn't know what you actually wanted. We thought this bug fest with clown characters instead of soldiers is what you were longing for".

And from what I read, most of us now accept this and don't see the contradiction. This makes me sad.

@DuaneDibbley BF2042 is not about what the players wanted. I play with the same lads. We have played BF2, 3, 4 together.

We cannot play an unstable game without squad management, simple as that. We don`t know if it is a good idea to remove classes from Conquest mode in particular. We seek the arcade game that has something to do with a militaristic feel. We would like to have a permanent server and play on the same map.

Anyone who is long enough with the BF franchise would point that out first.

    Finito.
  • @DuaneDibbley They knew what they were doing, but they failed to make a money-printing game like APEX and FIFA, the question is will this franchise continue if yes what will the next game look like?
  • define good..work as a squad? revive those around u? spawn on each other or divide all over the map. most players ive seen in my squads who fail in all 3 are console players. not all and yes there are pc players that suck. but the game play has gotten worse since the induction of console players.

  • @DuaneDibbley all I can think of is the game was supposed to be something completely different than the normal Conquest, Rush, Breakthrough game modes. I think Hazard Zone was one of them, but there may have been others where VOIP, Squad Management, Server Browser, Scoreboard, etc were not needed.

Then at the last minute, they had to completely shift from whatever they were planning to what we got. That's why maps feel so clunky in some game modes and because they probably threw in the spawns and flags in the final hour. That's how you end up with a flag on a tower in BT.

I also think the performance hit with 128 players in testing forced them to keep the maps to a certain geometry limit; that is why the maps are so blank.

So I don't know if it is a contradiction or just a change in direction. To me that is the only logical thing that could've occurred because there is no way they worked on this game for 2 years.
