Angel needs some love

I'll preface this by saying that I play a lot of Angel, he is my second highest mastery rank specialist and my most played support. I acknowledge he is flawed, but I try to make him work where I can. I am about to drop some harsh words, but they come from a place of love for Angel and hope for the future.

What's wrong with Angel?
We all know on launch Angel's armor plating was extremely strong and needed to be removed, but after losing that ability he has suffered a sort of identity crisis. Angel pre class update and post armor rework did have a niche in being able to bring gadget flexibility mid match via the loadout crate, as the open gadget system allowed for him to take whatever he needed to fit any role. Since the class update, Angel has really fallen behind his usefulness when compared to the other supports, especially when compared to Faulk. Faulk has an immense healing output, can self heal almost immediately, revives nearly instantly, and can bring an ammo crate on top of all of that. Compare that to Angel, who has 3 small ammo resupplies on a longer cooldown that can't refill gadget ammo like the ammo crate can. Not only that, but these ammo packs have a very inconsistent pickup range and often do not reach the teammate you are trying to throw them to if that player moves in any direction besides directly towards you. His only supportive output besides occasionally refilling someone's ammo is bringing the regular medical crate, or reviving teammates at a slower rate than Faulk and without the gadget ammo refill on revive that Irish has. The loadout crate is slow to call in, can't be dropped indoors, and if called in during the heat of an engagement may accidentally crush your own teammates who are unaware of it coming down. When the crate is finally down, it does have a strong ability in being able to fully restock allies. However, it is not an automatic refill based on proximity like the ammo crate is and more often than not teammates will simply not interact with the crate. Being able to swap weapons from the crate is a nice idea, but with how fast the pacing of 2042 is most players will simply change weapons upon their next deploy if they feel like switching things up. If Angel brings an ammo crate in his gadget slot, it essentially removes any flexibility with his support capabilities. With all that being said, what can angel do that Faulk can't?

TL;DR
Angel's ammo restocking ability is slow and unintuitive compared to another support class dropping an ammo crate to the team and his revives are weaker than other supports. Angel needs a full quality of life pass to fit in with the new direction 2042 is taking, be it a much faster and larger ammo output, or a new set of tools that make him stand out compared to the other support classes.

  • I feel like those who started out with armor should be able to resupply it as well as switch to something else and then back again. There could be a time of 5 minutes or so from when you start with it/resupply it to resupply it again. And they should allow the person who supplydropped to extend access to the supplydrop just a few meters or so via some extension placement to help with access inside places or some sort of mechanical device like ranger or some other robot to bring supply to at least the player that dropped.

  • Angel was my main. What they did in Feb was wrong and the primary reason I haven't put the disc in my PS5 since that day.

  • Angel definitely needs a redesign of his role. The general gameplay is too fast for his slow-to-deploy dropcrate and most people never use it but simply run past it. They'll change loadouts when they die, not at a dropcrate.

  • One suggestion is that they could give the loadout crate a large "ammo box" AoE. That would definitely make him more useful, tons of people would run towards it for ammo if it worked that way. Interacting with it and opening a menu just for ammo is just poor game design, sure you can still do that interaction to switch weapons etc but an ammo "circle" should be added to it.

And perhaps they should give him back the armor distribution ability, maybe make it half armor per satchel though.

Just an F.Y.I. for everybody, you don't need to open the menu to resupply from Angel's crate, just tap the "E" key at least on PC but I'm sure it is something similar on console as well.

You only need to enter the menu to change kits.
