- CloudMcRip4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Scotty-dre No because we had "grapple hooks" already in other Battlefield titles.
Grapple hooks (what I saw from leaks so far) seems to works similiar like the one from Apex Legends. It also does have a cooldown which seems okay.
The Wingsuit also doesn't seem overpowered, we already had in different Battlefield titles the parachute which somehow worked like a wingsuit with the different that you have now a better overview (in 3rd Person) for a short amount of time while gliding.
Just wait for the Beta, play the beta and see if it is to OP or not. But for now, no. Going by what's been made available so far, there's a good few heavy bottleneck maps (including one we know is coming back with portal) that's going to be *very* interesting with the grapple, probably more fun than it was.
Only "downside" i can think of is you're probably going to die a bit more to prone people on awnings/ledges or other normally unreachable cheap camping positions you don't expect early on, then people will adapt i suspect.
Once people figured out you could get on the roof of metro trains comes to mind, first few times you went "what?" then you started sweeping the roofline like any other normal contact point.
As long as the range is relatively sane (which it looks to be), i think it'll just be an interesting addition.

@Scotty-dreAs @CloudMcRip stated, from what we have seen, it seems limited in its application:
- how high you can grapple
- cooldown
- only one specialist can use it
- vulnerability while using it
Overall, it seems fine for now and I suspect the wingsuit to be much the same. Your mileage may vary though, so make sure to try it in the Beta!

The grapple hook I would more or less compare to the ladders/ledges we otherwise typically have had in the game, to climb up on various buldings, roofs, containers etc. What the grappling hook does better is of course it enables more creative gaming, so we can climb where we otherwise would not be able to do so, so think this is a great thing really!
For the wingsuit, then its not really a big gamechanger, versus aka the 'paraglider' style of parachutes we had in aka BF4. Though think we observed more speed and distance we now can fly with them versus just the standard paraglider chute. So also great, as it adds to the dynamic flow of the gameplay and ability to 'wingsuit' in behind the enemy frontlines! 🙂
The grapple hook was an excellent addition in BF2:SF and never considered as gamebreaking. I assume it won't break it this time either.
- kregora4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Scotty-dre I guess most of the specialists gadgets will have their moment in Hardzone, and will prove more or less useless in all-out warfare.
- ninjapenquinuk4 years agoSeasoned Ace@kregora That is a worrying thought. I'd Hope that the Devs would primarily be making a great all out warfare battlefield game and make hazzard zone around that, rather than shoehorning hazzard zone gimmicks into the core game
- kregora4 years agoSeasoned Ace@ninjapenquinuk It all depends on what you think the core game actually is.
If you think about it - a lot of guessing involved - when you imagine Hazard Zone as the core mode, the specialists begin to make sense. To test the acceptance, DICE put those specialists in a game mode, for the trailers that is familiar to us. And as an excuse, that the BF2042 isn't a successor to BF4, but something totally different, they give us the Battlefield Portal. - ninjapenquinuk4 years agoSeasoned Ace@kregora The core of any battlefield game should be Conquest or breakthrough or rush, the all out combined arms combat. Hazard zone should never be the core game where the rest is based around.
I didn't get that impression that it would ruin the game but the grapple hook definitely allows for greater mobility than any other Battlefield save for the jetpacks from 1942.
