So I've been playing BF on the XBOX since bad company 2, but this time with 2042 I bought the $69.99 version for xbox series X, for which I can play fine multiplayer wise since Nov 20.
Then I see EA advertises for the $39.99 BATTLE PASS. I know they come with add-ons and skins, but is it a MUST BUY in order to keep playing online?
If you want to play with all the specialists then you need the 1 year battlepass.
It'll give you a new specialist every season so 4 new ones in the first year.
So no it's not needed but the meta may be any of the new Specialists and you may get one that you really like.
Though I suspect that you are absolutely correct @Reddoguk ,
It will be a very contagious issue then, as EA moguls repeatedly promised the BF gamer community that nothing related to weapons/gadgets in the BF2042 game would be behind a paywall, and that it would only be cosmetics like skins they would charge for!
Maps and weapons will be free without battlepass. The new specialists must be unlocked if you dont have the battlepass, whily battle pass owners get them directly.
Paid battlepass will only contain cosmetic stuff like skins. At least thats what they say in their FAQ.
