Battlefield 2042 - Call for (new) Meat Grind map suggestions + my contribution

Battlefield has always included some kind of meat grind map, but we have yet so see if there will be one at release or one will come later.

With 128 players, the old meat grinders have too little space, in their original design, so I got thinking, how would one look if i designed it?

We have had community maps in BF4 in the past, lets get some thinking going and com up with some suggestions.

My pitch:

SeaBioLab 693

Location: just off the Galapagos Islands

SBL 693 is a mid ocean biological laboratory where research on growing produce out at sea is being conducted.

The facility consists of several level of interlinking raised tunnels and tubes in several levels, that run between laboratories, staff quarters, grow room pods, and also features a small dock at sea level (maybe a helipad would make sense) Between labs and grow houses/areas etc. there are vertical ducts, shafts and elevators to get between different levels, but it is also possible to use hatches and exterior walkways get on top and between these, but as they are on stilts in the ocean so if you fall down, you need to get to a pillar and make your way up again. There facility also features an underwater level with view ports this level will get flooded if view ports are blown or water locks opened, and also drained if view port seals and pumps are activated. In the middle of the facility, there is "The Orangery", a huge transparent grow dome linking to several levels of the tunnel network, as well as a central well down into a moon pool which serves to draw up moisture from the ocean to support the plant growth.

As opposed to many of the traditional dark and gritty meat grinder maps, the above water sections are lab sterile and bright in appearance, where as the submerged sections are murkier and darker.

Something along those lines...

  • @TrasteTh I am pretty sure there is Metro / Lockers style of map coming… just have not heard what it is yet.

Pretty sure they're making Manifest this sort of map, but it changes about via cranes moving the cargo crates

  • I think that EA have intentions to make the Manifest map the designated meatgrinder map for infantry players in BF2042...

But for us the classic BF lovers, suggest that EA just give us a double-decker whammy map of the classic Operation Locker or Operation Metro in the Portal and I think we would be done! 👍

Double layered maps of these classics would enable quick map development by the EA design team and it would give us the alternative flanking routes that we need to make the maps work with the double of players vs old 64-player versions and braking up the otherwise very linear gameplay direction.

Aka Locker already had flanking routes via the outside snow covered area and also two levels of passage ways.  Metro less so, as around the B flag offered limited flanking pathways, as all pathways led up to the same singular and intense cluster F*** area...

But still both maps were fun for that specific purpose and still these days attract a lot of players.

  • @TrasteTh I am curious to see about smaller sections of maps utilized for TDM any smaller modes and if / how I would be able to tweak that up possibly w Portal, I might take a crack at Portal I like to get creative and I have an unfortunate amount of free time on my hands, depending on options given w that, maybe it will be possible to do with the maps coming

@CyberDyme I agree on the classic maps being reworked for Portal, or even as-is, though for some of them that would be absolutely mental.

How about the old Metro map, but with 128 players?

Getting grenade kills on that would be like fishing with dynamite.  🤣

(though fully agree, not practical playable or fun for long)

@CyberDyme I think the choke points needs to be reworked as well as flanking routes. The thing is, that most who like the meat grinds, focus on the choke points.
I don't know how many times I have played Metro or Locker and it is mayhem at the choke points, and no one cares to cover the flanks.
Some matches you can literally sip on a piñja colada while you stroll over to cap the enemy flags or hit them from the back. Frenzy.

But yeah, it would be fun to play them once or twice with 128 players just to experience it.
