Battlefield 2042 optimization

Hi I'd like to discuss this subject. My pc is not old nor new. It has a pretty solid GPU that runs all games on ultra Geforce GTX 1080 ti with cpu i7 7700k 4.2 Ghz. Now my question is: are there going to be any performance optimization for PC in the near future? I am running full graphics on low / off and my fps is barely touching the 45 mark on Exposure 24/7 128 playersi even overclocked both my gpu and cpu and it didn't help . While in other mmofps games such as Planetside 2 i run full ultra woth constant 144 fps on big fight with 180+ players. And secondly i wanna talk about the constant stuttering / rubberbanding. Game is not playable on big fights.  ( On smaller scale fights its somewhat okish... )

Quad core cpu isn't fast enough even with hyper threading. Even older 6 core cpu like the i7-8700k dips below 60fps in 128 player modes.

A modern 6 core cpu will run near 100% usage. For the smoothest gameplay a modern 8 core cpu will leave some cpu usage overhead.

As you said, the only optimization is to play game modes with a lower player count.

An I7-7700K is an old CPU by now and will get low FPS or lots of FPS variance in BF, it could be the cause of stuttering as well. Even BFV was pretty hard on 4C/8T CPUs. BF-games are notoriously hard on the CPU and with 128 players, things has been taken to a new level.

But like you I get a lot of "lag-issues", insta-deaths from all kind of weapons, getting killed around corners/behind cover, etc. The "netcode" of 2042 is really bad and for me it seems like the servers are struggling to handle the game. The worst part is that 64 player modes are just as bad as 128 player modes.

I'm personally getting really frustrated by the bad netcode and that cannot be solved by a faster CPU (I have a Ryzen 5800X).

  • I setup my old PC at a friends house. It's an i7 6700k with a 1070. It's obviously older, but still, I can manage to get over 100 fps in pretty much any game with low settings. BF2042 is abysmal. They need to just ditch the whole 128 player thing. It's not working.

The engine is amazing up to 64 players with destruction. Hit Reg has always been a little off on smaller maps when everyone is crammed into smaller areas.

Dice needs to focus on 64 player with medium sized maps in my opinion. They gave up so much to get to that 128 player count.

  • @XCTHOLY I started to play bf2042 with an i7 4790k + 1070 and always had like 50-70fps it was horrible, upgraded to an i7 12700k + 1070 (i kept it because the prices were still bad) and now i am at medium-high setting 70-120fps, so ye its totally cpu bottleneck
  • @RaginSam how many DX12 only games with 128p you can compare it to? None ok, that’s what I thought

pure DX12 games have new requirements and with the new gen\current consoles there are many “new” features coming to games so some hardware gets obsolete

and getting rid of a mode due to hardware issues is not a solution, getting rid of a mode because of balance issues like rush\breakthru is ok for me

also, I like the 128p matches, i like the chaos its fun for me and on my PC it runs smooth in ultra on 1080p with vsync (i7-10700 with RXT2070)

@cso7777 I wish this wasn't true but that is my CPU and it does feel like a bottleneck with my 3080Ti.

@CountSero I also have a rig that has a 3070, so yeah... still isn't optimized.

Again, the engine does really well up to a point. Go back and play BF5 or something. It looks better and is way more detailed. They have to give up things to get to that player count. You missed that point by a mile.

@GRiPSViGiLAnd you are probably right. But in low resolutions, no CPU is probably fast enough for the 3080TI.

The new 5800X3D improves FPS in some titles, compared to the 12900K.

But whether upgrading from a 5800X is worth it at this point is another story, lots of money for a very small improvement in most games.
