I play as a guerrilla style player using the Recon class in Battlefield 2042. I will spawn in behind the opponents lines to attack their objectives. Sometimes I will run across armor camping on the objectives blocking me from attacking the objective. So I use C5 to remove it. By reducing the amount of C5 I can carry to 2 versus 3 adversely impacts my ability to do this. I believe it is a mistake for the devs to reduce the amount of C5 that a Recon player can carry to 2 versus 3.

Every Battlefield game let you carry 3. You've always been able to blow up an entire vehicle solo with C5, and it's never been a problem. It takes multiple seconds to put them all down and to trigger the switch, during which you are open and vulnerable. Even McKay and Sundance. Them being able to rush to a vehicle is a problem with the specialists, not C5. A tank driver only needs some situational awareness and a gunner. The only people for which this is a real issue are people who want to solo operate a tank, especially those who just want to sit at the edge of a map and snipe.C5 is already massively nerfed by reduced throwing distance and a much smaller lethal blast radius, making them primarily good against vehicles. And now that's been reduced as well.If you stick to your guns and keep it at only 2, make them more effective against infantry again.It seems this season is the one of unnecessary nerfs that primarily benefit selfish players.

@Lady_One Why not? It has been that way in past games. If you can get close enough to a tank, then you should be able to destroy it.

@MADMAC50KWe're going to get +1 rocket (on top of Crawford); I don't know why that had to be in an upcoming update and not now, it's just a number, but it is coming, see the 7.0.0 notes.Personally I wish the M5 got more rockets than that but oh well.And besides that, I think the vulcan and the sentry gun should be better against vehicles; I've seen people suggest letting Crawford build stationary TOW launchers and I second that idea.

@KnighsTaIkerI hate to say you’re going to have to be more of a thief now. You’ll have to hope someone can hit the tank a couple of times with rockets or other tanks, etc… then sneak in with the 2 we get and steal the kill. What we don’t know if it’s spawn with 2 and maybe be able to pick up a third, like with rockets currently. The arguement about what we used to get in past games is long off the table with these devs. The majority of players I think just want the old games with new graphics, maps and weapons, but basically the same game. I’m not gonna lie, I’d be ok with that. I don’t need change for changes sake, life throws enough of that at us. Seriously if they’d just reskinned 4 and had new maps, we’d all be playing it right now. But we’re moving forwards and we need to get on or get off. I’ll miss that third one too, and hope we can pick up a third after spawning.

@MADMAC50KThere were 3 grenades. They made them 1 grenade when Redacted came out... Then realized their mistake and made them 2, which is still a decent amount and is enough to solo a vehicle alongside C4. It's also good damage anyways, they deal 15/19/24 to the front/side+turret/rear of a tank. 27/27/39 (!!!) against a RAM, which takes 41 from C4. 17/21/27 against a wildcat, which also takes 41 from C4. Note that all of those are up close (C4 range), there's falloff for most of them by probably ~3 points of damage... Because of course there is.With 2 C4, 1 AP anywhere kills a RAM, 1 AP not at the front (easy) kills a wildcat, and 1 AP at the rear (hard?) up close kills a tank. But you still have another in case you mess that up. And of course, APs are explosive and will detonate your C4 for you if shot at it.

Nightbird pilots also clearly like going 100-0

There's a class dedicated to dealing with vehicles, that shoots rockets that deal the same damage C5 does, but from a distance. As you say yourself, this doesn't stop you from soloing vehicles, it just makes it a bit harder, which is the whole point, soloing vehicles shouldn't be this trivial - you shouldn't be able to traversal sprint near one of 2042's vehicles, start throwing the C5 from 5m away, and blow it up that fast.

@xVultureYou can still solo clueless tanks if you really want to do that, which both I and the OP mention.
Nevermind that mentioning the past games is a false equivalence. There was no traversal sprint and crouch sliding in BF4, you could barely even throw the C4 a meter let alone the ~5-6 you can still fling it here, all vehicles handled much better, and you couldn't slow down/freeze a tank, be it with the grenades for it, or through a smoke anyways with Rao. AND it didn't persist after you died, it just vanished.

@Lady_One without C5, soloing vehicles with rockets is almost impossible due to APS/Thermal smoke/Repair. Plus mines are about to get nerfed also. If they remove C5, they should buff rocket damage.

Not just Recon, assault as well. It's never been a problem, you just need to not solo operate a tank and have situational awareness.

@Lady_OneWhat? The throwing distance is significantly nerfed compared to prior games... And tactical sprint and crouch slide barely make any sort of difference, you just need 10% better aim max, and on console aim assist takes care of that for you. I don't know what you're on about.

@AOD_MGsubbieYou can still blow up a single vehicle solo in a single life shooting at it with AP underbarrels after the C4. The AK-24 reloads those very fast.
Previous battlefields did not let you fly literally faster than the fastest ground vehicle as infantry, consume tank shells with your shield while also taking less explosion damage, spiderman yourself onto any ground vehicle in a 15m area, slow the vehicle down / outright freeze it with a single grenade, or by pointing at it through a smoke...
Or hell, flying in your own tiny fast personal helicopter that takes very little damage and then parachuting on top of whatever's below, as many tries as it takes, nevermind the javelins you can also fire off of it, lockons were disabled in air vehicles sometime around the middle of BF4's lifespan. If C4 restricts all of those, I'll agree to non-engineers having 3 C4s then. Oh, and the parachuting speed too.
