Excluding folders in Onedrive isn't that simple though.
If you exclude a folder like I have done in the attached, that only tells OneDrive to not copy the contents from the cloud to your local PC.
Unfortunately it doesn't work the other way round due to the Backup feature that Onedrive has implemented.

So what you end up with is a "cloud" copy of the folder, and one on your local PC, which causes a conflict.
I'm surprised there isn't an easier way to tell Origin/EA Play to store the contents elsewhere, because the Documents folder really shouldn't be used for all that data. As others have mentioned, it should be placed in AppData.
I have the same problem. The suggested solution to sync to "appdata" wouldn't really help me, since that partition is only big enough for windows and programs except games, not huge amounts of cache. For me, the game folder would be a good place. However, we should be able to choose.

Just getting ridiculous. Had shut down my PC immediately after a game last night, then when I started it up this morning for work OneDrive needed to do a half GB upload. Utterly tedious.

I'm pretty sure, as has already been noted several times in this thread, that process only excludes folders from your local computer and not the cloud-based OneDrive server.

If I delete the shader cache in the documents folder it seems to run smoother before it gathers shader cache files.
Shouldn't the point of it have the opposite affect?
- 4 years ago@I_DYN4MO_I they have chosen the wrong path for it
if you have backup\cloud software running like OneDrive it will back up this folder to it can causes lags and a reduction of game perfomance
also, it is 1+gb for me at the moment, with more than 2k+ of files which are always getting more (last time i delete the folder it was somewhat between 2,5GB - 3GB with 3k+ files)
I luckily don’t use a cloud backup but I use as traditional HDD which is slower than the SSD for my win11 and BF2042
So if there are less files your performance is getting better - 4 years ago@I_DYN4MO_I Depends on your specs.

@I_DYN4MO_Isame feeling here... before the last patch I restricted the access to the cache folder so none gets created, but with 1.1 patch the game will not run anymore by doing this.
Now after 2-3 days of heavy playing the game feels like it's running worse and I'm gonna try and delete the cache again(it's also very big 1,5gb)edit after trying out: somehow it runs better again after deleting the cache and it's 3.5k files...

After the last patch I know longer need to do this but it used to substantially increase how smooth the game was
