Can't avoid talking about it: CoD MW2 beta...

So, I decided to try out the MW2 beta... Last CoD I played was Black Ops II or Modern Warfare 3, whichever came out last but whatever...

And tried the game mode invasion... It actually felt like a BF game, although with dumbed down vehicle gameplay... The other modes are okay too, but invasion was really nice.

Few things to mention:

- Map design: It's good. Buildings with actual layouts and furniture (not just 2 pots of paint and a ladder inside). The map flow was decent too, plenty of options and constantly shifting

- Gun-play: Very solid, recoil feedback a bit much but at least all the scopes are functional and varied. In BF2042 it feels like you're gimping yourself using anything other than fusion holo and the impact attachments make seems inadequate.

- Graphics: Pretty good, obviously no serious destruction but eh, don't have that in BF2042 either tbh. I do like the overall feel of the soldiers and maps.

- Customisation: plenty to do, operator skins seemed a bit "meh" but maybe because it's beta? Gunsmith is great, lots of options to mess around with.

- Balance: seems okay so far. Haven't had any "wth, how?" moments like I frequently have in BF2042

- Menu/UI: Guess they hired the guy who did the original UI for BF2042 because it's awfull. Way too much unecesarry stuff...

- Sound: OMG yes. So good. Makes the pea-shooter sounds from BF2042 laughable...

So that's my small take on MW2 beta. Enjoying it more than BF2042 but might be because it's new... Plus kinda have to play this game because I paid for the season passes... aaaanyways, I might probably switch to COD after all this time because BF-series has let me down one too many times...

Another big factor for me is still having issues with this game after a year... Ever since Seasons started, my first match I play has horrible lag where my mouse movement just seems to skip registering movement. I even did a full windows reinstall to try and fix this but nope, didn't work.

Then, I also have to run Origin aswell which even with in-game overlay turned off, still gives an overlay and always crashes when I shut down my computer. Viruses run smoother then Origin.

Honestly, BF2042 shouldn't have been released. The lack of detail and feeling of this game is just... sad. Plus the weapon imbalance even after this long into the lifecycle is just mind boggling.

Tried playing another match today and now its Avancys everywhere, or a SFAR / K30... You'd forget this game had other weapons. And ofc, hitreg and mouse input just being awful ☹️

played it as well but unistalled the same evening again.

First I played the 6V6 dom first round was good, 2nd one as well but then SBMM kicked in full force and I found myself as low level against high level sweats.

I also played the ground war mode but have to say it felt like a dumbed down BF experience. No teamwork the capture zone barely had any cover, and the sprint duration is way to short for the distances to travel basicly making you a sitting everytime you cross a field.

And people incl Youtuber saying COD fired shots on BF is just lol. Just because there is a hugh map and 64 with some vehicles doesn't bring it anywhere near BF.

Although I like the fact that you don't get spotted when not using a silencer is a really great gameplay decision I wish to see in Battlefield again.

Back in Battlefield 2 days there was only manual spotting by the commander or teammaters ( ah the good old radion chatter spam made you really feel like a soldier) and the uav by the commander.  Imo I think BF:V found a good compromise and I hope they bring it back.

Regarding I won't buy simply because of the strict SBMM, I only get 2 or max 3 hours an evening to play, after work and gym I don't need to further sweat on my pc.

  • I thought it was rather enjoyable and was infinitely more polished than 2042 will ever be!

The game itself, i.e the Gunplay and Weapons etc are good. But all that is meaningless if the game fundamentally is unfun to play because of really bad design choices. That CoD Beta made me grateful that PORTAL has a somewhat working server browser where Skill Based Matchmaking can't plaque my experience. SBMM ruins CoD for me. I'm always sweating in a game that's meant to be casual. At least in BF2042, I'll encounter the odd tryhard after running around enough, in the BETA before I even turn a corner, I'm dead.

The time to kill in the CoD Beta was also really bad, I didn't like it at all.

I also play the mw2 beta from the beginning and I especially like the sound design. Weapons sound serious, unfortunately in bf2042 someone made a grim joke on this topic and everything except the sniper rifles sounds ironic. .. like weapons from previous call of duty. Character animations, map design at a much higher level than in "our" battlefield itself, but vehicles in Ground War mode are some kind of mistake. In fact, it would be better if there were none at all, especially tanks and Apc (ala BTR). Their implementation looks like from a mobile game, they only defend themselves with the quality of models, but the shooting and moving model is generally a joke. After all, I'm afraid that instead of battlefield I will be playing call of duty.

I played the beta a little bit over the weekend and I was very happy with it.  I am a bit of a fanboy and freely admit it.  I have worked a bit for Treyarch as well as having made a ton of maps back in the earlier releases like World at War.  I created and ran one of the biggest mapping websites at the time.  So yeah, a bit of bias towards my roots.

The people who posted above me have pretty much covered all the essential info and initial impressions so I wont bother to quote them nor to repeat what has already been stated.

I will say that I had fun considering this was a one weekend Beta release as opposed to this 10 month beta that we have been subjected to here.  MW2 still has some work to do but that is what a beta helps out with.  I have no doubt that it will take over my harddrive and I will have more space once I remove this game.  I dont blame people who have been burnt with pre-orders and are going to wait for the full release and feedback on the game and its progression.
