Console Aim Assist = Broken Game

Hear me out.

No matter the platform I think we can all agree on one thing: Aim assist is a benefit.

It is inherently unfair to give any player a benefit not available to all. Period.

I'm 53. My eyes are shot and my reflexes leave a bit to be desired. Where is my aim assist? Not all mice and keyboards are created equal either, do inferior models deserve an aim bot?

Call a spade a spade, aim assist = aimbot. it's a matter of degrees. As a pc player, if I use "aim assist" at any level, I get banned. Because console players choose consoles they deserve a leg up on me? Here's a thought, lets everyone play on even ground. Instead we have the great and all powerful oz deciding, behind the scenes, how much of an advantage console players deserve. If aim assist is allowed, let me as a pc user turn it on.

Also, yes I could turn crossplay off. I would LOVE that, but sitting in an empty lobby for hours at a time is not why I bought this or any other BF game. It makes complete sense why there aren't enough pc players to field a random map. Why would anyone play a pvp game where others have an unearned advantage not available to themselves. Being cannon fodder for console players, that is just not fun.

I really like this series. Not been there from the start but near enough, decades. I hung in there through the rough installments and rocky starts. But I have to say, this will be my last BF title. It feels to me like EA is pandering to the console public to grab a larger audience. If true, its pretty disloyal to the PC base that got you here. In the end, if aim assist is acceptable, let me turn it on, if not....legalized cheating is still cheating.

PC players have had access to aim assist since at least BF1. Just plug in a controller.
Do it and I think you'll find that aim assist isn't nearly the aim bot you think it is.
I believe aim assist is being falsely blamed for what is really a net code issue.

I personally understand both points of view

...but i won't judge either.

I play on PS5 myself but aim-assist wise for example i have this aim-snap thing OFF as i don't like this influence on my aim behavior, and the aim-slowdown i have at about 50% i think (as precise aiming with moving a joystick is harder than with mouse).

With that setting i feel fine playing and don't feel OP either. If they recently messed up something on aim-assist functions, i dunno.

About the empty lobby topic tho is probably related to crossplay being available at all and not the low PC player base in BF2042.

Since crossplay exists now, most people on PC (i guess also on console) will play with crossplay ON, therefore if you turn it OFF you will never match with any other PC players that are looking for games with crossplay ON.

So in that case there might be a way lower player count of those who play with crossplay OFF, and they are then also happen to be split up playing at different times often i guess.

If crossplay wouldn't exist at all, everyone would have to stick to his platform and then it would also look different.

At certain times you play this game is dead anyway tho.

Even with crossplay.

@xxHaitxx you seem to forget it is inherently easier to aim with M&K than with thumbs on a stick.

This topic will never go away until crossplay is disabled by default, and then everyone will be happy in their ecosystems.

I literally just turned aim assist off (xbox) because I feel like it is a hindrance, causing me to not be able to move fast enough to keep up with a moving target. Not to mention that if you are sighted in and another enemy crosses pathes, it will refocus from the original target.
You should go read some or all of the really long thread on this subject and maybe get a better understanding of both sides. Aim assist certainly does not function the way you describe (think) it does.

The netcode is 100% a game braking issue.

@xxHaitxxI am not sure about this, but the aim assist got buffed in the last few patches from my gut feelings... I get sniped from 400 meters from xbox players while I even not hitting him once and he got EVERY shot. I get COD'ed by some guy with controller jumping around the corner faster than I even can target. It's not fun anymore and I see controllers now in favour like it is in COD heavily...

The problem is not Aim Assist in itelf its the Aim Assist that is used by console players using a Xim or Cronus device that means they can use M & K and still get the aim assist

@xxHaitxxI've been bringing this up myself quite a bit and you get the same tired arguments from the same people. People shouldn't get a free aim bot because they choose a worse input for playing a shooter. I understand crossplay being a thing, but at this point, let's just call it a failed experiment. There's no need for crossplay. There's enough players on each platform to be healthy to sustain.

If you play on PC, you shouldn't get ANY aim assistance what so ever. There are plenty of statistics to prove that aim assist has been over tuned in many FPS games. Look at how many Pros have switched on Apex. They all say it's just easier to be consistent. It takes a lot more effort (brain power) to manually aim.

Think of your brain as CPU. You only have so much usable processing total. Ever watch a video of a Pro or of a good player, and think, "I could do that"? Everything seems slower, more digestible, smoother. When you lighten up what your brain has to process, you can make better decisions in the moment. PC players have to dedicate a lot more processing power to just their aim with a mouse. It's not that easy. One pixel off, and you miss. Aim assist cleans up so much, and even snaps you onto target to begin with. That's arguably the hardest part. There's plenty of statistics across many games that show aim assist is the more consistent choice and out perform MnK.

One of the biggest issues that doesn't get enough attention in BF2042 is the reduced recoil for controller players. It's very noticeable. Add that to snap onto target, rotational assist, slow down, and whatever else they give controller players, it's far too much.

I will not be buying another shooter that has crossplay from here on out. I'm done with them. I don't care that I have good stats, that I hold my own, that I typically place in the top 5 of the scoreboard. When an unaware console player takes damage from the side, flips around, then instantly kills me, that's infuriating. It feels cheap and unearned. There's nothing to learn from that instance, no way to improve on that scenario. It's incredibly unsatisfying, and I don't need that from games I play.
