Decouple pilot freelook

Please enable this for BF 2042.  I loved it so much.

  • We can only hope! As you know, it was a new feature introduced in BFV so my bet is that it will return in BF2042.

  • Hello @Raven3356

Im sure it will be possible in BATTLEFIELD 2042 as DICE already implemented this feature in past Battlefield games. 🙂

@Raven3356I expect it will be in bf2042, but it does make dogfighting trivial/boring though, if you're behind someone, they should never be able to lose you if you use back camera, 3rd person and freelook correctly, unless you're a bad/inexperienced pilot.

Without decoupled freelook(like in previous battlefields), there are certain blind spots which pilots can you use to throw off the chaser/attacking plane by tricking them by changing direction, however with decoupled free look, any decent pilot would never allow you to lose them, especially if air radar returns (stalling/breaking as defense in my experience doesn't generally work as defense against actually good pilots)

I dislike guesswork when being forced to not being able to decouple freelook.  I think that decoupling freelook doesn't do any damage to the gameplay or "balance" because it forces the other player to do so as well meanwhile removing the imposed or forced blindspot mechanics that are arbitrary and shouldn't exist.  Decoupled pilot freelook has really made the game a lot better and increased my dogfighting skills.  It also has made it more immersive since a fighter pilot has to coordinate by what information the pilot sees behind them in first person and is a pointless limitation to force coupling.

@Raven3356it made dogfighting pretty easy (hence obviously you would do better in dogfighting), I believe battlefield v doesn't even have an dedicated dogfighting community like older battlefield (3/4) had, it was partly due to blindspots that people spend hours and hours fighting in private dogfight servers and still were improving after months/years of practice. For this reason there aren't that many expert dogfighting pilots in bf v compared to older titles, so that makes bf v dogfighting also much easier, it's pretty easy to master dogfighting in bfv (low skill ceiling) compared to past titles.

Guesswork while dogfighting in previous titles meant, that you had predict and read your opponent, while they tried the same against you, while at the same time you tried trick or deceive your opponent. If you lose this aspect of the game with decoupled freelook, then when two pro pilots face each other in a turn fight, they would just fly into the same loop, circle infinitely because trying to trick/break off from the loop/circle from your opponent would get you killed, since the other pilot would see you and just shoot you down. The issue is that it make dogfighting more way restrictive and less creative.

I understand you might dislike guesswork being involved, some might like it, some might not, which is fine and subjective.

But like I said, I expect it to be in battlefield 2042, as decoupled freelook isn't without benefits, it makes it easier to learn for new player but in turn caps the skill ceiling, which might make dogfighting boring for more experienced players once they get to a certain skill level, it's a trade-off really

  • Go to your Documents>Battlefield 2042>settings>PROFSAVE_profile and open it with notepad. Go to Edit>Find. Type in "Freelook" and hit next. Change GstInput.FreelookSensitivity to some high value. Go back to Edit>Find. Hit next again. Change GstInput.PlaneFreelookDecouple value from 0 to 1. Have a great day.

The first setting does. I set my value from 1 to 250. And it’s still slow. The second one is decouple pilot freelook. Also, scroll all the way to the bottom and find DOF. That will help with some frames.

  • Thanks a lot for the tip, but unfortunately this is still not working for me.  I have trackIR emulated as mouse input, so if I hold down the freelook key I can look around the cockpit.  No flight controls while freelook though.  Did I miss something?

Hi @THE_N4RF Since this thread hasn't been active for over a year now I'm going to have to close it. However, you're more than welcome to create a new one.
