DICE, please clarify if Paik's scan range got stealth buffed
I played with Paik before her patch 1.2 buff, got her to T1 and only used her from time to time. Paik's ability was okay but not critical to most scenarios. As soon as I tried her after the patch, both my friends and I noticed the increased range of her scans. But the patch notes does not mention a range increase at all.
From 1.2 Patch Notes:
Paik
We felt that Paik’s EMG-X Scanner was not consistently worth using as an offensive tool as it caused her to become spotted, and thus vulnerable. We therefore removed this self-spotting effect, and slightly increased the spot duration of scanned enemies to make the Scanner more reliable for use.
- Increased the spot duration while using the EMG-X Scanner from 0.5 -> 0.85s
- Paik is no longer spotted when using the EMG-X Scanner
This increase in range makes her ability viable. Whereas before the range was so short that enemies down a corridor I was looking at wont be picked up by the scan. Now I can scan a room and know for sure no enemies are nearby.
This increase in range is also what's making her overpowered. Before the patch her scan might reveal one or two people on the other side of a wall, now a dozen enemies are revealed with each scan on a contested point.
I agree with the patch notes that Paik should have been buffed a bit, but DICE over did it with stealth buffs as well. I see a lot of players complain about Paik, but no one mentions the vastly increased range that's the crux of the problem.
Paik definitely should be adjusted, but all the talk of banning or replacing her ability is unjustified.
Well looks like I was wrong, I searched youtube for gameplay footage of Paik before and after patch 1.2 and I found the max distance an enemy could be scanned is the same.
