"big topics for us to cover all at once, and we have plenty we want to say around them"
lol, okay dude. It's either in the game or it isn't. The whole "and we have plenty we want to say around them" tells me they somehow rationalized taking them out was a good idea. I swear it's like you think you know someone after 18 years of playing their game and then something like this happens out of left-field.
One thing I'm seeing is the older gamers and/or casuals are actually calling the scoreboard an ego thing which is not really surprising if you're the type of player who merely *exists* in a server for 40 minutes and doesn't really do much...maybe sits camping somewhere while making/eating a sandwich irl. Or the type of person who is overtaken by graphics over gameplay and just having things explode like a war movie around them is enough for them "whoa immersion".
They don't care about score, but they care enough to not want everyone to see they only got 3 kills, no objectives during that entire 40 minutes.
Really though, It really doesn't matter what you get out of it, but to dismiss the *actual reason* we are all in-game which is to get into *competition with each other* is weird. It's mental chess mixed with reflexes and aim. That's why we are here, that's literally the game, stop trying to pretend it's not. There's a SOLO/COOP mode if you want to LARP against bots.
as for VOIP?...like I said, I've been gaming for 18 years now and seen/heard everything from 2003-2021 and yea, it can get toxic. It's called mute. That's a hell of a lot easier a process than to expect people across different platforms to download, install and/or connect on a voice chat client.
"...big topics for us to cover all at once, and we have plenty we want to say around them"
So EA, how about getting started instead of this terrible waffling around, all while saying or promising absolutely nothing?
It comes down to this being very simple. List each reported missing function, then EA to indicate 'YES' or 'NO'. And if a 'YES', then quote the DATE for when we will have it. And you are done!
EA, lets hear your answer. You have already been procrastinating on these now for many weeks. Actually matter of fact for many months! Because for the vast majority, we already raised them many many months back in the technical play test feedback. And then again in the Beta testing.
Here is your list of entirely missing or inadequate game features just to get started:
- No standard server browser
To few standardized game modes. We cannot even play TDM or smaller scale modes without relying on community servers.
No persistent lobbies (seriously why do we have to matchmake after EVERY round? It is awful and total waste if time)
- Having to go through 11-13 flash screens between two rounds before getting back into a live game play again.
- No class system
Less character customization options (than BF5)
No profile progress/stats page in the menu
No battle log/stats tracker for other players
No global leader boards
No end of round assignment progress screen
No dog tags (they still sort of exist I guess?)
No custom emblems
Fewer achievements
No medals
No cross-game profile screen (BF4, HL, BF1 and BFV were all linked by a menu if you owned them in same BF eco system, was a neat feature.)
No spectator mode (an absolute must have to prove cheaters to EA !!!!)
No permanent community servers (would be useful for clans and events)
Servers missing in many regions, so players are forced onto out of region with high ping right now.
- No 3D spotting
Fewer guns (even including all the portal guns, BF4 still had more at launch)
Fewer infantry gadgets
No manual leaning
No diving while swimming
No high wall vaulting
- No backwards prone
No explosion knockback
No rolling after falling from heights
No ammo or health pickup off teammates
No scope zeroing
No tiered reloads/paused reloads
- No thermal optics
No indirect fire gadgets
Less anti-tank launchers (Come on man only one?)
No lock-on launchers (The M5 works with the SOFLAM but that requires 2 people)
- No suppression mechanic (This one I don't mind but I'm including everything)
No first person takedown animations (whether this is a downgrade is up for debate, but I think it is)
Fewer vehicle types (and separate vehicle progression per faction even though they are functionally identical... why???)
No naval vehicles (Except I guess the hovercraft technically)
No vehicle gunner direction indicator for the other gunners in same vehicle
No lock on direction indicator
No vehicle enter/exit animations
No tank turret decoupling (This was so great in BF4!)
Less vehicle driver/pilot customization options
No tank zoom customization options
No tank gunner customization options
No heli gunner secondary weapons
No separate heli/fixed-wing controls
No rocket aiming reticle for helictopters
No control input while looking behind/free looking in aircraft (like for BF1 and V pilots)
No joystick/non-generic gamepad support
General consensus seems to be that the helicopter and fixed wing flight models are a step down from BF4.
No squad wipe scoring
No player damage points
No vehicle damage points
No vehicle kill assist points
No headshot bonus
No long-range kill bonus
No assist counts as kill bonus
No multi-kill bonus
No killstreak stopped bonus
No comeback bonus
No squad objective play bonus
Oversimplified teamplay scoring (i.e. healing a teammate always gives you a flat +5xp rather than being based on how much you heal them)
No commander
No special squad call-in abilities
No squad field upgrades
No in-game VOIP (coming soonTM)
Fewer factions (with almost nothing to give the 2 factions any distinction)
No cross-team chat
No team changing
No "create new squad" option
No clans/platoons (coming soonTM)
No view of squadmates while in the spawn screen
- Terrible poor and messy spawn screen, with no clarity on what and where we really spawn in.
No "Medic incoming" or distance indicator in downed state (coming soonTM)
No rank names/icons, just a number.
Lack of persistent servers means poor map rotation
Fewer base game maps (not including portal maps)
No static weapon emplacements
Few destructible buildings
Very poor balance between vehicle and infantry gameplay
No infantry focused maps
No game changing levolution
Absolutely zero cover between capture zones
Poor and not enough spawn points (Constantly spawning in same fixed spot, in the open/visible to enemies)
No fortification building (given how open all the maps are, this could have been super useful)
Fewer urban areas
No naval maps
Less control customization options
Less UI customization options
No HUD/icon opacity customization
No HUD scaling customization options
No gunsight reticle customization options
No network performance graph
No individual player scoreboard
No ability to zoom in on the spawn map
Less detail in the 'who killed you' screen
Less ultrawide monitor support (hud ratio is locked in at 16:9)
Very poor friend joining system (Lack of server browser makes playing with more than 4 friends completely impossible)
Poor/non-existing console aim assist...
No in-game crossplay toggle option for xbox (you have to change your global console settings)
General consensus seems to be the audio design is bad, especially compared to both BF3 and BF1.
3D soundscape is almost non-existent
Less impactful soundtrack (menu music is very dull and repetitive)
End of round music is dull and uninteresting (compared to BF1 and V this is a big downgrade)
End of round voice lines are just awful. Hate them really by now...
- HillbillyJohn4 years agoSeasoned Ace@CyberDyme Agreed, I can't get a refund and my patience is starting to wear thin waiting on things to be implemented that should have been in any Battlefield game day one.
- 4 years ago@CyberDyme Jeez, that list is so autistic it makes my head swim.
Hardly anyone gives two hoots about most of that stuff.
You could reduce that list to about 10.- 2Timothy34 years agoRising Veteran@Tank2042Man I miss 75% of that content. There are many, many fans that feel the same way. "Hardly anyone" is probably reflective of your own personal circle, but not an accurate assessment of the community.

I've put in literally thousands of hours of game time into the franchise since the 1942 Wake demo and just came off 1000 hours on BFV.
So I'll continue to be a filthy casual moving forward and laugh at your autistic wish lists.

@CyberDymeThat's some huge list. What a frekin downgrade we have in 2042. Thx for sharing and shame on you game publisher.
The only reason they have taken out the score board is for their own benefit. You don't have people flooding these forums with people saying things like, PLAYER X did 220 kills this round, wtf is DICE doing about cheaters, bla bla bla.
This way, no one can see who is cheating, thats ONE LESS PROBLEM for them to deal with.
you forgot one.... a new anticheat program... and if one cant be done, then return servers and allow us to moderate them to kick/ban hackers cause ive seen videos of cheating already from 2 days ago on youtube.
- 4 years ago@CyberDyme I was disappointed in 2042, but reading this summary really puts things into perspective.
And to me it underlines how the game was designed as a battle royale or just hazard zone. Or perhaps they had focused on portal but realized they needed the "classic" Battlefield, and then rushed it. Either way it's shocking. - 4 years ago@CyberDyme This post should be the first in the forum pint there until every single feature is added again !!!
Instead of building the game with a great foundation of all the good features from past titles the suits tried to monetize every single aspect and veterans were victims of false advertising... we are no longer the targeted group... but who is ??? getting warzone players or fortnite players to play a copy of those games won´t be successful... ea will only alienate the veteran fanbase- 4 years ago
I really cannot believe this is a AAA game without a scoreboard or VOIP. Those are incredibly basic things not just for Battlefield but for any shooter.
Clearly 2042 was meant to be something entirely different but they didn't want to assume any risk by making a new IP so they attacked it to Battlefield. That's the only reason I see for removing so many mechanics and features
