Some great responses in here and some great setups!
I have a pair of sennheiser HD560's open backed 120 OHM headphones that are literally perfection for FPS games and dont break the bank, a Sennheiser HD560 compatible boom mic cable from amazon that transforms headphones into a headset with a mic and to give them juice I bought a Schiit Hel 2 DAC/amp with a mic and headphone input at the front.
I don't run any EQ although steelseries have some great eq software with ready set audio presets for bf2042.
I'm with ATFgunr! It's hilarious the advantage I have compared to the average Joe when it comes to environmental awareness. IMO it's a game changer and I've had tons of different gaming headsets over the years that are nowhere near as good as these Sennheisers.
Some other "end game" headphones worth a shout out-
Bayerdynamic DT1990 pro's (enders uses these)
Sennheiser HD490 pro's,
And the holy grail of FPS headsets the Sennheiser HD800s.

On your recommendation I ordered the Sennheiser HD560s Headphones. I was looking for open back anyways.
Will see myself what all the fuss is about.
- I_DYN4MO_I2 years agoSeasoned Ace@sk1lld Wow dude that's a lot of pressure! Hope you like them. I'm very confident in them they're an amazing purchase for the price and really light weight and comfy.
If you need a mic for them check out the - "GEEKRIA Boom Mic Headphones Cable Compatible with Sennheiser HD 599SE 598 560S, 2.5mm Jack" (not sure if |I can post a link to amazon)
You have to make sure you get the compatible mic (if you want a mic that is) because the HD560 has a 2.5mm jack input.
Also at 120 OHM's you might need a DAC/amp to power them which is something pretty much all gaming heatsets do not require. I recommend a Schiit Hel 2 as it has the mic in and headphone in.- sk1lld2 years agoLegend

I will look into that mic but have one already so should be good to go.
Don't worry I was already looking at the Sennheiser Headphones so no pressure.
- ATFGunr2 years agoLegend@I_DYN4MO_II had Sennheiser G4ME Pro… I can’t remember the exact name but I know I paid over $500 (back when I was young and single!) and they were the best headset I’ve ever had. Made me a life long Sennheiser fanboy. Had to settle for the 350 due to budget after I wore the old ones out. @sk1lld I think you’ll be happy, enjoy!

I still don't get how a NEWER game can be Worse than an older one?
The sounds in this game are C$%p, Footsteps are non-directional, and you find yourself spinning around to try and see where they are coming from. Then there are the Ghost vehicles which just appear with NO sound at all.

Got the Sennheiser HD560s last night, am very pleased with them. I do seem to hear more footsteps if that's possible. The soundstage on them is incredible and they are very comfortable, thanks for the recommendation!- I_DYN4MO_I2 years agoSeasoned Ace

This is what my 560's look like with a boom mic cable (just plug and play) no sticky pads or magnets.
