Do you want to see a return of the premium pass?

  • I've been thinking alot recently about how i miss the days of the premium paid dlc that older games had. The post launch support for 2042 has been good to see, but the amount of content is just not enough. I don't know how everyone else feels but i'd happily welcome back the premium pass for the next game if it meant getting more dlc maps and content again.

  • Absolutely.

While other titles were rotting in seasons/passes and other BS, Battlefield was rocking hard with premium pass which I had for every BF game since BF3.

Pay once and forget it. Easy as this.

However, I doubt many will buy it now

Also, DICE seemed not be able to produce enough content anymore. One map per half of year

A China rising, for example, BF4 DLC, had 4 maps, 5 weapons and new game mode. Now we getting 1 map, "vault" weapons. New map is adding sandbags on old ones.

BF era came to an end, deal with it and move forward playing SEASONS with toxic colors tuxedo cosmetics instead of maps

  • @Eeken02 I would 100% buy DLCs again. The content was always excellent and I thought there was value. Population of them was good regardless of how many claim it wasn’t. There’s lots of evidence out there of the success of the DLCs. This live service BS pales in comparison to assured and consistent content. It also forced the developers to make good content or no one would buy it.
  • I don't. The days of season passes are long gone but at the same time, it has been painfully clear that Electronic Arts and Dice Sweden aren't willing or aren't capable of committing the resources necessary to support and sustain the demands that modern multiplayer gaming comes with.

Old fashioned season passes would certainly be easier for them but considering games these days are costing closer to $100 just for the base game and given the tarnished reputation of the franchise and the developer that drove it into the ground, I am not sure if it would be the fiscally responsible thing to do.

What I want to see is a Battlefield game that works Day 1. That doesn't need 6-12 months just to fix the launch issues so that they can focus on the content. What I want is for them to commit a full team to working on continuous content and updates with a long term support goal in mind instead of the old fashioned 2 year turn around that they have clung to.

Either way, I have sincere doubts that neither Dice Sweden or Electronic Arts are currently capable of supporting the next game to a satisfactory level regardless of whether or not they go old school with a premium pass or take the modern approach.

  • @Eeken02 I think everyone believes there is a lack of content, just some would settle for some things fixed rather than a bit of new content. The amount of content in 2042 is the most barren I have ever seen in fps video game and it's life cycle is almost over. It leave nothing for players to play with until the launch of the next game. We DESPERATELY need more maps. Game launched with only 7 maps, 6 in the portal (which 2 don't count for the game overall), and 5 maps from dumb live service. So only 18 maps in almost 2 years, that's less than bf5 (and it got it's plug pulled to early 😢). Weapons are finally going to be in a better place (once season 5 is two thirds way over) all vault weapons will be similar to core game weapons.

@sgtPoulton you nailed it too. I don't think they'd be capable of making enough good content for a premium pass if we went back to that model. They seemed to struggle with making 1 sloppy map every 12-14 weeks for these seasons. Like flashpoint is a horrible map. Exposure, stranded, and spearhead are good, but only in 2042. They're no siege of Shanghai or St. Quinten Scar. The amount of weapons has been absolutely painful. Look at bf5s seasons, the at least added a good bit of weapons each season.

@Eeken02Nope. The quantity of content that came with Premium Pass DLCs was always excellent, it's the locking of content and gamemodes behind a paywall that was terrible. Splitting up the playerbase like that is the dumbest thing that can be done for a games' survivability.

Sadly not everyone buys PP DLCs even though they were affordable, which is why more people always gravitated towards the free launch content, which resulted in previous games eventually dying because the good DLC content doesn't get populated enough and people just end up tiring of the launch content.

Haters can deny it all they want, but it's true. The facts are literally there.

Maybe do weapons/cosmetics behind the premium DLC but maps are still included as free and paid for by extra cosmetics/battlepass/whatever other garbage? Gives people something to do and strive for, but that is of course dependent on the maps still being 3-4 maps every few months instead of what we currently have.
