The EA CEO Andrew Wilson who, back in October 2020 upon the Anthem game meltdown, said:
"As games have gotten bigger that system isn’t working as well as it has done in years gone by. So what you should expect from us is that it’s not just about changing the development processes in the game, it’s not just about changing the QA process in the game—although both of those things are being changed dramatically inside our organization right now—but it also comes down to changing how we launch games
You should expect that we’ll start to test things like soft launches—the same things that you see in the mobile space right now. And it also comes down to changing how we communicate with players. Our entire marketing organization now is moving out of presentation mode and into conversation mode, and changing how we interact with players over time."
Indeed, that closed feedback loop between EA/DICE and their paying customers has been overwhelming... ahmmm.
Keys words like "live-services" and ”soft launches" already employed back then, so he definitely got that absolutely right with BF2042. They absolutely released an unfinished game. Not even sure it was even half-finished? And Andrew still decided EA should charge the full AAA-price at launch of the game... And the service we have had on the BF2042 game since launch has been more dead than live...
Current state of BF2042 with less than 2% of all players around now since launch is the hard facts and nothing more really needed to illustrate how poor this one fared for EA/DICE no matter the marketing spin they still try to make of it.

In recognising that the franchise needs a lot of work, imho it would be appropriate to begin that work by fixing the current title BF2042 which has at least another six months to run.
That to me would be the single most important signal they could send to the community and would at least start to rebuild the trust / confidence that has been eroded due to the direction they have taken with BF2042
Everyone can see that mistakes have been made and damage has been done to the BF franchise, DICE could help repair that damage by dedicating a team to making BF2042 as playable / enjoyable as possible, even if it is not cost effective to do so.
DICE imho the whole reputation of the franchise is at stake here, so please start by showing us that you mean business by addressing the current issues in this game before moving on to the next one.
If you do that, you would have more chance of players buying the next title because currently there are a lot of disgruntled / disillusioned BF players who feel let down with their BF2042 purchase.

He can give me a call and let me know when it’s ready but in the mean time I will be playing games that are with my time and money!

ok Andrew....you recognize that there's a lot of work to do. Now what are you going to do about it to convince me to buy any games with the battlefield name on it again? we are LOOOOOOOOOOOONG past the "trust me bro, i got you" phase of trust. at this point these are just words and we need to see an actual change in behavior in order to rebuild trust. that starts with dedicating resources to battlefield and communicating a roadmap to the players. this super secret "i'm not telling the community our plans" stuff needs to end.
battlefield is now in the DICE/EA need to cater to the players a bit in order to earn the trust back. the lack of resources to create content or inability/unwillingness to get people who CAN do it in a reasonable amount of time and a reasonable amount of quantity (sorry, one map every 3 months for a year isn't cutting it) is whats killing this franchise. we used to get 4 maps per DLC. now we will likely get 4 additional maps in the life of the game.
right now, as things stand i'm not opening my wallet for the next battlefield. i'm not putting any more money into this one (i don't buy skins in game anyway so that's not a reflection on this game, just a guideline for myself. i don't care what my character looks like as long as i can blend in with the environment reasonably well)
you want my money andrew? SHOW me that dice can still make a battlefield game and communicate with the players via roadmaps. then we'll talk about me getting my debit card out.

Every time I read one of these articles talking about how they are going to fix it im then I’m reminded of the developer video where they specifically stated they are not considering right now a server browser for AOW.
and I’m like, that translates as “We’re going to fix it; <whispers>No we’re not<\whispers>”
I think this is the only game in 30+ years I’ve ever been disappointed buying and can’t believe how annoyed I actually am. I guess it’s because I’m just so utterly flabbergasted as to how so utterly and monumentally wrong they got it, that I still can’t believe anyone would have thought that this was in anyway what so ever actually good.Everything they say just seems so tone death, and as though they’re still focussed on a new younger target audience, an audience I really don’t fall into.
I’m also really curious as to what kind of stats they are looking at that suggests anything is actually any good in this game or that any significant number of players actually enjoy it, broken down buy market segment. I.e new players with zero expectations VS legacy players with “those” expectations.
sigh.
just add map server browser, map rotations & squad controls already.

Franchise needs rebuilt from the ground up as a casual military shooter without shoehorning silly gimmicks masquerading as innovation.
