Forced crossplay between console and PC should NOT be the default setting.
As per the topic title,
Having crossplay between PC and PS5 / Xbox Series X/S as the default setting is killing the console playerbase and only serving to compound the issue of low player numbers for the game.
Many players have simply stopping playing the game or have switched to the PS4 / Xbox One version of the game to avoid having to face-off against the PC cohort and having a simply horrible time.
Players on PC enjoy a huge advantage as mouse and keyboard is infinitely more precise than controller, this makes for an incredibly poor player experience for "next gen" console players going up against players on PC.
I have read numerous PC players complaining about "controller aim assist" and the huge advantage it gives players on console, but with a few rare exceptions PC players are literally cleaning up every match, farming players on console as easy kills.
I suspect this is why players on PC "complain" about controller aim assist using it as a counter argument, but rarely call for the setting to be changed, this is because they clearly know it provides them a significant advantage in game not to mention the fact that using a controller is also an option available to players on PC should they so wish.
Don't even get me started on the players that are clearly using mods and hacks in games (incredibly obvious in some cases and seemingly not actively policed by Dice?).
I enjoy Battlefield 2042 despite its issues, I'm still playing although having now switched to the last gen version (a shame as I paid for a version optimised for my XSX console), it also plays far more fairly in terms of winning gunfights / not getting 1 shotted by a pistol from the other side of the map etc. The difference is night and day, just as it it when I play BFV and BF1 two of my favourite games not ruined by effectively forcing crossplay to the detriment of one part of the playerbase.
I pay for Xbox Live and PlayStation network and expect to play in an ecosystem that is fair and free from cheating. Up until the "next gen" version of BF2042 this has for the most part always been the case, however if something is not done to remedy this issue I suspect BF2042 will be the final game in the series that I play.
The solution to the problem is almost certainly to set console only crossplay as the default, allowing players to "opt in" to play with PC users / friends if they so wish. Changing this setting will allow a next gen player base to be built as I am positive that the only reason that toggling the menu option to off currently leads to a huge wait in matchmaking is due to forced PC / console crossplay being the default.
I am positive that there is a large enough playerbase to allow this, however the current algorithm seems to favour a 70/30 PC to console split on each server, spreading console players accross multiple servers rather than placing them in console only / input matched games.
Dice, please review and change this setting for the good of your console playerbase, it is literally a win-win situation as making forced crossplay opt-in rather than opt out leads to all the positives with almost none of the negatives of the current way the game manages matchmaking.
Leaving it too long to make these changes may mean there are too few console players left for the setting to be effective further down the line.
