They might even want to do that, but with just a handful of developers (at most) there is only so much that can be done.
Of course they don't admit to that and even flat out lied about this fact, even if it is so obvious. Now we got the statement from the highest level at Dice that 'No other game is in development and all are working on BF2042!', even though we know that IF that would be a true statement, the rework of all launch maps would have been completed already. But we will get just ONE map rework in S1 later in August. ONE! And most likely one ONE new map with S2 -- IF we are lucky (nobody confirmed even that bit).
How hard can it be to integrate the basic core features that are most requested? Definitely not very hard, especially for things like persistent servers and a server browser for AoW. All this is already in the game in Portal. Why don't we get it? Because the 2-3 guys are desperately working on other things to make it look like someone is still working on BF2042, even if basically nobody does.
So, what should the CMs communicate. Were they to post here about that, they would also have to perpetuate this lie. They clearly could not come here and state: 'Sorry, no core features will come in the foreseeable future as the 3 remaining devs need to focus on getting the one map out and fixing the most important bugs.'
However, map fixes? Moving objectives, adding entities to the map. That can be completed and tested with 1 or 2 devs in a week.
Vehicle, weapon, or aircraft balancing, can be done in an hour with changes to only a few values, tested, and put out as a hot fix.
Most of the things we are asking for can be done with very minimal effort. They have their own agenda though, and it is not in line with ours. They want this title to have as few active players as possible so they can cut losses as soon as possible and move on. The last few surveys indicated as much.
For CMs, we constantly post about issues for weeks, then a streamer will mention it once, and they will respond with thanks, we will look into it.
They already mentioned Server Browser, at launch, and during a recent Q&A. So it is not like certain topics weren't discussed. They are just tone deaf. It might actually be a language barrier thing with the bulk of the development in Sweden. Even though they speak English, they may not understand a lot of the context to what we are saying.

Well, I am German and we are notoriously bad at English, but when it comes to the Swedes, they speak a pretty decent English (judging from my 1st hand experience traveling those nordic countries). No, it's definitely NOT the language barrier. How hard can it be to understand what we mean by 'give us back the core features' -- they don't even have to read what we write but rather look back at those older titles and implement what was there before.
And I fully agree -- the 'great sandbaggening' (a term coined by Enders) cannot be too much effort, especially as they reuse assets that exist and just have to place them on the existing maps. For elevation changes, the same is true and even with the worst of level editors should be doable in a pretty short time. And they already SHOWED the rework of Kaleidoscope and Renewal, so, this is was already more or less 'done' more than a month ago. Why this is not out is really hard to explain, even if there would only be one sole developer left working on the game. - RayD_O14 years agoHero@DuaneDibbley
Yeah I find it mind boggling that everything about BF2042 is drip fed, it certainly doesn't inspire confidence for the future that's for sure. - RMEChief4 years agoLegend@DuaneDibbley ok that is fair on the language barrier. On the old titles, it is abundantly clear that none of these devs played previous BF titles (especially BF2-4, BC2).
To me, this just feels like a cheap BF clone. It has common game modes (currently 3x Conquest in AOW for some reason), but that is about it. - BR-DuaneDibbley4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Adamonic
What makes this even more strange is the fact that the marketing people (those that created the rather awesome trailer) knew EXACTLY what their player base wanted. The made the trailer in a way to to appeal to those players that were with the franchise for many iterations and were longing for some kind of return to the good old BF4 times.
So, they have proven with the trailer they KNOW exactly what the vast majority wants. But they still decided to deliver something completely different. You cannot sue them for false advertising I guess, but this clearly was a perfect example what constitutes such a thing. - RMEChief4 years agoLegend@DuaneDibbley They tried to go hero shooter with new game modes where Hazard Zone and BR were the primary game modes. Once they realized that it would not go over well, they tried to convert to traditional BF and it failed. The maps all look 25% done with only one major area with any level of detail (Breakaway = oil rig, Hourglass = stadium, etc). The other areas of the maps could've been built in a few weeks. Why would every map, in different parts of the world have the same door knobs/access panels? Things like that. Zero attention to detail.
