Agreed @cornybbq2 ,
This is a massive problem for most of the players still and needs urgent fix for the game to be worthwhile coming back to and play it more...
One of the reasons for the bullet sponging we are many to observe may be to the fact that EA actually have not set up sufficient servers in proximity of the players geographic locations. Ake for what we have heard feedback on so far: No servers for South America, no servers for South Africa, no servers for the Middle East, no servers for ANZ, no servers to cover the Asia Pacific region Singapore, India... (think though we have servers in Japan?).
But as EA/DICE have very conveniently removed the function for us to have any server browser in the game, we dont know with absolute certainty our own latency to the server we may be thrown onto and we have zero visibility either to the latency on the players also on the same server...
We do however have some insights into the current state, as aka in the Portal we can see the latency to the various Portal servers that we have ability to join for our gaming experience. And here I have aka many servers in the 120-180ms range, and some even much much higher than that, namely above 180-200ms (I am based in CET region). With such poor connectivity quality, then bullet sponging is a consequence.
- 4 years ago@CyberDyme Very good points. I was thinking the same while in Portal yesterday. Like OP said, I'd be lighting someone up, they turn and drop me in an instant. It's a clear sign of lag/latency issues. At least in my FPS experience. And yeah, the Portal servers often have yellow or worse pings on many of them. I was playing the Conquest of Ages playlist. Like you said, who knows what server I was put into or the ping times of anyone in there, myself included.

Yeah I been experiencing it too and has made me lose more gunfights than I can count. This wont even be fixed until after new year now either which is BS, server browsers really need to come back. I mean it should have been in from the get go anyways
- 4 years ago@CyberDyme Not to deny what you said about the server location issue, but I'm in CET too and I don't think I have once played on a server where I had more than 30-40ms ping. I am very central so you may have a bit more ping, but 120-180ms ping should be US or Asia.
That said, I fully agree with the other issues mentioned in this thread. I created a similar thread a few days ago for a reason.- 4 years ago

I know for a fact that I am physically located just next to the European server park for the BF4 PlayStation servers. Typically having a latency of 11-18 milli seconds max to the servers there, if choosing a European based server. Hence the evident difference to observe when suddenly in the bullet sponging hell that is happening in the BF2042 game from time to time.
The root cause of the issue is not necessarily your own connection to the server that you play on. It's also impacted by the potential low line quality other players are connecting with to the same server that you are on!
Aka this weekend I contacted a few of the frequent enemies I was up against in a Break Through match. 2 players were based in Japan and one was in Brazil. So go figure...
Only one of the Japan guys replied to me. He had 650+ ms latency to my location. The Brazil guy was around 370 ms. I asked them to ping to Rotterdam, which is near me and EA BF servers for BF4 PS4/PS5. (I miss confirmation still on the BF2042 server locations for Europe)

@CyberDymeI’m in belgium, normally i get around 20-30ms ping in previous battlefield games. So server distance shouldn’t be a problem.
Just now i uploaded some gameplay of myself on youtube. A whole clip on an enemy and i got 1 hitmarker… its been like this the whole day. Its broken.
Check it out if you like

4 Rounds on 64 Conquest.
First round went perfect.
Second round nothing in my scope or hipshot seem to hit.
Third round was awful
Fourth round I hit my wall and played something else.
Man I don't get how its so perfect sometimes then the next round you can empty a clip into a sniper and it shows hit markers but only did 20 damage

Yeah I feel your pain, sadly I had to quit a few times yesterday for the same reasons, there is no fun when it gets that bad. ☹️

@cornybbq2what you are experiencing is just battlefield to me. I was before in France now in Belgium and so far hit registration is a huge issue in Battlefield games in thos countries. My friend from UK do not have these issues.
Im currently playing BF3 i got to drop 30 bullet on a guy cheast/head with aek to kill him. Clear shots with shotgun denied on people with ping over 60.
My ping ping also is arround 30. But hear me out on BF5 there are some servers where my ping is arround 160 and there i play in god mode somehow.
My advice use a VPN and connnect to favorite servers from far location this will make your TTD less consistant than arround 30. No chnages on TTK.
- 4 years ago@CyberDyme Portal was supposed to be our server Browser, and persistent lobbies. But they removed progression from portal. 😒
- cornybbq24 years agoSeasoned Ace@SilverJackal96 On the dedicated servers there is still progression

Was it trash for anyone else last night?

@CyberDyme & others who are interested. These are the current worldwide server locations for Battlefield 2042, as of 07:00 GMT Tuesday, 21st December 2021.
Most, if not all, are 'AmazonAWS' servers. I have never come across a peer server in Battlefield 2042, unlike CoD in which they are regularly used as a fallback.

Thank you @ItsTheBritishGuy ,
Excellent insights!
I cannot see the exact details, so do you have a way to share the source please?
Would be interesting to hear from players based in Brazil, South Africa and Australia what ping they have on the servers they create themselves in Portal, as that should be default then be placed on a server park in their own geographic proximity. That did not appear to be the case the first weeks after launch but great progress if enabled now.

@CyberDymeThe source is my XR500 router.
When a game connects to online services, it pings known servers which subsequently light up on the map.P.S. Right click the image and 'Open in a new tab' for full size.
P.P.S. If I create a Portal server, it is hosted on the south UK server "ec2-35-177-74-41.eu-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com" which is the closest to me. It's a 10ms ping.

Nope still just as bad as ever…: I have come to the conclusion that the game must be literally littered with hackers because no dev worth his salt can claim this netcode is acceptable

As expected, no improvements.
- 3 years ago@CyberDyme I've been talking about this on Twitter since the last update. Feels Waayy worse. They need to roll this update back. All of it

And yet again left two games because of shooting rubber ducks..pffff. This game is totaly messed up beyond reality.

Whaaaaat !! If that is true then this is last Dice game - WTF. You cannot have this - 20 ms players vs Asia with 300 ms ping = unplayable. Then it all make sense - DICE WTF !!!
Back to network school - it is impossible to have this kind of delay range on same server. No wonder things go wrong when ever I play - feel like I have over a second of delay = I die in all gunfights.
If you can sell the game in Asia - you also have servers in that region - this is * and just made me angry !!

I agree with you I didn't play yesterday cause the day before in 2 times in 1 game my gohstmaker bolts were going through the enemy wich I recorded cause someone else didn't believe me.

There is nothing more frustrating than not being able to kill anyone.
I have had to leave servers more and more recently in the hope of finding a decent server, we desperately need a fix for this asap.- 3 years ago
I had an instance last night that was crazy.
I was reloading and saw an enemy. so I strafed to get behind cover. well the player/game slid me back to where I was and I died.
the same player killed me several times in very questionable situations that game. I don't think he was cheating, but something was very questionable with his whole squad, which finished top of their team. my best guess is lag, which is caused, and amplified, by low player count at this point.
one thing I've noticed over the years (since BF3), the higher ping you have the more God like you are. if you have low ping, you get destroyed. Dice seem to favor high ping players. its BS. I pay good money for good internet, I shouldn't be punished for it.
