I'd put it down to a half-finished game engine, which they admitted on release.
There are a lot of Sync issues with this game with hit reg being a big problem but also other sync problems which are very telling of the code beneath the game. The main issues I've noticedin regarding Server sync/lag:
- Sometimes, it seems to take an awfully long time for the server to actually authorize the firing of my weapon. By that I mean an extra 1-50ms or somewhere near that. This feels like input lag, but it's not because it's very inconsistent.
- Map events, where buildings collapse - particularly those that are scripted seem to jump all over the place or only update about once per second
- It's still possible to fire multiple projectiles at once that make use of the vehicle lock-on system. I can replicate this 100% of the time using mostly any ATGM lock-on missile launcher.
All of these have been here since release.
It's amusing because I work on games myself so I see everything little inconsistency 😉

2 years from the OP and this is still happening. Damn shame really
See you in the next one?

@Prep768that's what happens when you have interns and 1st-time employees as devs. They may be motivated, but have no advanced knowledge of the game engine, so things beyond superficial changes are well beyond their abilities. They don't even know how to add a Server Browser in AOW because the dev that did the one in Portal is in a different studio and no longer working on BF2042.

If I purchase the next one and that is a big if. I will wait for the reviews, players comments and whether it has a server browser, persistent servers good hit registration and a way to play with more than 4 friends. If I see Match Making, I won't be buying.

I do have a tangible update. I finally got a response from one of the Devs on Twitter, and he said he will forward to the team:
https://twitter.com/oliverCAndersen/status/1737790862585659559?s=20
I linked him to my Bug Report here:https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/Insta-Deaths-Damage-does-not-equal-100/td-p/13182869
So we will see what happens, but maybe this will get them to really look at the TTK/TTD issues, the damage log does a really good job of depicting the problems. - 2 years ago

@AdamonicI hope they can, they have to know, if they do any kind of monitoring in the game it’s very apparent. I also hope they’re not just blowing smoke up your hoohaa. It’s a 134 page thread, they have to know and clearly have no idea how to fix it. This is how it is.I don't even know if the devs come on these forums, the ones I see on Twitter, none of them have a EA handle on here or have ever posted on here. Just the CMs, and that stopped a long time ago.
One thing though, through all of this I hope my concrete evidence with video and screenshots with the damage log will point them in the right direction. I can play any other game and none feel as bad as 2042. The Finals, Warzone, any previous BF, they all feel fine. - JOGAGATYA2 years agoSeasoned Ace

In Warzone it may take 3 seconds to kill someone and the other guy might kill you in similar circumstances in 2.7 seconds.
You shoot at each other for such a long time, in the heat of the moment you don't notice anything. You don't notice that 0.3 seconds difference.
In BF2042 those numbers are 1s and 0.7s
You notice the same 0.3 seconds easier.
- 2 years ago@JOGAGATYA very true on the TTK but at the same time, BF3 and BF4 are 10+ years old when internet was nowhere near the speeds that it is today and the TTK was comparable back then.
I was just saying that it is not my computer, nor my connection. I have no issues with any other game like I do with BF2042.
I have been going back and forth with Oliver for several messages now, so he is definitely looking into it based on the more recent and more detailed questions.
There is definitely a huge desync problem, probably their lag compensation - Mackstan712 years agoSeasoned Ace
